A gestação constitui um processo biológico natural na vida da mulher. Todavia, neste período, ocorrem mudanças fisiológicas no organismo da gestante que refletem também na saúde oral. Estudos evidenciam a relação existente entre a condição de saúde da cavidade oral e a saúde geral do corpo, bem como as suas implicações no feto. Assim, destaca-se a importância do profissional de Odontologia na assistência durante a gestação. Entretanto, o atendimento odontológico às gestantes supõe de pré-requisitos para que sejam selecionados os agentes mais seguros. Deste modo, é necessária a formação de cirurgiões dentistas aptos a prestar atendimento diferenciado à gestante, incluindo ações preventivas e curativas, para que se promova a saúde bucal da mãe e, consequentemente, do bebê. Este artigo tem por objetivo revisar a literatura especializada e atualizada disponível sobre o tratamento odontológico durante a gravidez, desmistificando o atendimento às gestantes, de modo a possibilitar esclarecimentos para orientar as condutas clínicas baseadas em evidências científicas.
Pregnancy is a natural biological process in women’s lives. However, in this period, physiological changes occur in the body of the pregnant woman who also reflects on oral health. Studies reinforce the relationship between the health condition of the oral cavity and the body’s overall health, as well as their implications for the fetus. Thus highlights the importance of Dentistry in health care during pregnancy. However, dental care for pregnant women requires qualification for them to be selected the safest agents. It is necessary, therefore, the formation of dentists able to provide differentiated services for pregnant women, including preventive and curative actions for to promote oral health of the mother and, consequently, the baby. This article has for objective to revise available literature of the odontological treatment during the period of the pregnancy, demystifying dental care pregnant women, in order to make possible clarifications to base the clinical behaviors in scientific evidences.
