Removable denture cleanliness in the 45-65 years age group ABSTRACT Introduction: Removable denture is the type of restoration that can improve the stomatognathic function that is disrupted due to tooth loss. The use of dentures able to restore the masticatory function, restore the speech function, improve aesthetics and maintain the health of the remaining oral tissues to prevent continued damage. Poorly maintained removable denture cleanliness could increase plaque accumulation which can cause various problems in the oral cavity that affect general oral health. Denture cleanliness can be assessed using an index, one of which is the denture cleanliness index (DCI). This study was aimed to determine the cleanliness of removable dentures in the age group 45-65 years in Cimahi City. Methods: This research was a descriptive study conducted at 3 Community Health Centre (Puskesmas) in the City of Cimahi. Determination of the sample in this study using random cluster sampling following the inclusion criteria to obtain a sample of 69 people. Determination of denture cleanliness using denture cleanliness index (DCI). Results: Removable denture cleanliness mostly found in the medium category (51 people (74%)), poor category in 15 people (22%), and clean category in 3 people (4%). Conclusion: Removable denture cleanliness in the 45-65 years age group in Cimahi found mostly in the medium category followed by the poor category and found the least in t...
The temporomandibular joint is called temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and it can be characterized by pain, limited mouth opening, masticatory disorders, joint sounds (clicking or tapping sound), crepitus, tinnitus, and persistent headache. The causes of temporomandibular joint disorders are multifactorial. The most common occurrences of these disorders are tooth loss, bad habits are bruxism, chewing on one side, and leaning on the chin. This study aimed to determine the relationship between one-sided chewing habits and the incidence of temporomandibular joint disorders in students of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry, batch 2020. This research was an analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test with 245 research subjects from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry, batch 2020. This study used a questionnaire in the form of a g-form which was adapted from the AAOP questionnaire and distributed to all students of Jenderal Achmad Yani University Batch 2020. The results of this study found that 168 students (88.89%) have the habit of chewing on one side and the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders with a value of p = 0.021. It can be concluded that in this study, there is a relationship between one-sided chewing habits and symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders
Polyamide resin is widely used in dentistry as a denture base material. Cinnamon burmanii has been proven to have antibacterial and antifungal substances. Therefore, it is the potential to be used as a nature denture cleanser. This study aimed to examine the effect of soaking 50% cinnamon extract solution on the surface roughness of polyamide resin. This study used 16 polyamide resin samples soaked in 50% cinnamon extract solution and 16 samples soaked in distilled water as the control group. It examined the surface roughness before and after immersion for four days and seven days. Data were analyzed using paired T-test and independent T-test. The results showed a significant difference in the surface roughness of polyamide resin before and after immersion in cinnamon solution for four days and seven days. The surface roughness change is due to the polyphenol's reaction on the polyamide resin surface, which has destroyed the polymer chain of polyamide resin.
Kata kunci: Kehilangan gigi, kualitas hidup, OHIP-14ABSTRACTIntroduction: Tooth loss is the condition of the tooth being detached from its socket. Tooth loss often occurs in someone who enters the elderly period. Someone who suffers tooth loss, especially in the posterior teeth will disrupt the mastication function, which makes a person feel difficult in consuming food. Tooth loss can directly affect the quality of life. This study was aimed to determine the effect of posterior tooth loss on the quality of life in the 45-65 years old age group at the Community Health Center of the City of Cimahi. Methods: This study was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. Determination of sample locations was using random cluster sampling. Determination of the sample was using purposive sampling in patients aged 45-65 years old with teeth loss of ≥ 3 teeth so that a minimum sample of 77 people was obtained. Determination of the quality of life was using the OHIP-14 questionnaire, then analysed using a Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Analysis with the Pearson correlation test obtained the r-value of -0.625 with a p-value of ≤ 0.05 which means there was a strong relationship between the quality of life and tooth loss, the higher the tooth loss amount, the higher the quality of life will decrease. Conclusion: There is an effect of tooth loss on the quality of life in patients aged 45-65 years old at the Community Health Center of the City of Cimahi. Keywords: Tooth loss, quality of life, OHIP-14
