MMSE and SIB scores (P<0.001), and were significantly different (P<0.001) between responders (MID and above) and non-responders (no change or worsening), as defined by the CIBIC-Plus score and caregivers' overall assessment. The MID (CPA: 0.3; CAT: 0.7) was based on the minimal improvement score on the CIBIC-Plus. Conclusions: The CPBQ is a reliable, valid, and responsive measure, which can be used to assess the level of patients' engagement and the level of caregiver perceived burden in clinical trials of moderate to severe AD.

Conclusions:The words list learning test is more useful tool to examine the verbal memory function for the older adults rather than the story recall test. Therefore, it is more effective way using the words list learning test in order to examine the verbal memory function for the older adults whose memory and attention ability has been decreased.
P1-217 METHODOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING PROXY MEASURES IN DEMENTIANick Marosszeky, Jan Sansoni, Centre for Health Service Development, University of Wollongong, Wollongong, Australia. Contact e-mail: jan. sansoni@bigpond.comBackground: In recent years an alternative measurement approach has developed which uses proxy or surrogate reports by carers or clinical informants as a means of assessing people with dementia. In recommending a tool-kit of measures for dementia conditions, the Australian Dementia Outcomes Measurement Suite (DOMS) project investigated this methodology as it represents an important piece of complementary evidence when assessing dementia conditions. This paper reports on work funded by the Australian Government which aimed to investigate best practice assessment methods in the use of proxy / informant / surrogate reports for people with dementia. Methods: A detailed academic and practice literature search was undertaken including the PsycINFO, MEDLINE and CINAHL databases.
BackgroundDementia is a common, disabling disorder of the elderly. With the steady growth in the older population, the rate of dementia is expected to increase two fold by 2030 and three fold by 2050. Dementia of Alzheimer Type (DAT) and vascular dementia (VD) are among the most common types of dementia. Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are associated with increased patient morbidity and carer burden.
