Crystals of KZnF3 doped with~0. 05-at. /o iron exhibit Fe ' electron-spin-resonance (ESB) and electron-nuclear-double-resonance (ENDOR) spectra which indicate the existence of a charge compensator along a (111) direction. This is over and above the cubic spectrum observed at lower doping levels. The ESB spin-Hamiltonian parameters of the compensated center at 77'K are a=+49. 7(4), D=+107.9(3), and E=-2.7(4) (in units of 10 4 cm ) andg=2. 0029(3). The angular ENDOR data for the two sets of three nearest-neighbor fluorines were analyzed to determine the local distortion in some detail. The results are in good accord with a model which assumes that one of the eight nearest-neighbor K' ions surrounding the Fe ' is absent.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
