Zoom Cloud Meetings is a web-based learning platform that was utilized during the COVID-19 epidemic as a learning tool. The purpose of this study was to find out what students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang felt about utilizing Zoom Cloud Meetings as a medium for learning and listening during the epidemic. A qualitative case study research technique was used in this study. The participants in this study were third-semester EFL students from UIN Raden Fatah Palembang's English education study program, with four students employing a deliberate sample using maximum variance sampling. The data was gathered using a semi-structured interview with open-ended questions. The theme analysis approach was used to analyze the data. The study's findings revealed the following benefits and drawbacks of using Zoom Cloud Meetings for listening skill development: (1) the influence of the first language on listening skills, (2) Zoom Cloud Meetings features, (3) internet connection, (4) security issues, (5) time limitation, (6) lack of vocabulary mastery, (7) homophone words, and (8) prior knowledge about the topics. As a result, the study's findings revealed the following benefits and drawbacks of using Zoom Cloud Meetings in learning to listen: the influence of the first language on listening skills, Zoom Cloud Meetings features, internet connection, security issues, time constraints, lack of vocabulary mastery, homophone words, and prior knowledge about the topics.
This study aimed to find out whether or not there was any significant difference in reading comprehension between the eighth grade students of Bina Jaya Junior High School Palembang who were taught by using K.W.L graphic organizer technique and those who were not. Seventy-two eighth graders were the sample of the study.The writers did an experimental method by using quasi-experimental design to the two groups of students. The VIII.3 class became the experimental group and the VIII.2 class was the control group. A reading comprehension test was an instrument to collect the data. The result found that the significant level was 0.000 < 0.05, so that (Ha) was accepted and (Ho) was rejected. So, there was a significant difference on students’ reading comprehension between the eighth grade students of Bina Jaya Junior High School Palembang who were taught by using KWL Graphic Organizer and those who were not.
This study aimed to describe the implication of speaking achievement by applying inside-outside fishbowl (IOF) to the students of Tridinanti University Palembang. The total number of samples was seventeen of sixth-semester students of the English study program of Tridinanti University Palembang, they were selected by using purposive sampling. This study used classroom action research. It consisted of two cycles; cycle I and cycle II. Speaking tests and observations were used to collect the data. It was found that there was a significant improvement in students' speaking achievement, the mean score of speaking achievement in cycle I was 64.47, and there was only 29.41% of the students who achieved predetermined minimum standard mastery. Based on the finding on cycle I, the writers needed to improve the students’ speaking achievement by conducting cycle II. After did cycle II, the mean score of speaking achievement was 79.76, and there was 94.11% of the students who achieved predetermined minimum standard mastery. This strategy builds the students’ participation in doing discussion and helps them reflect on what a good discussion looks like. Using Inside-Outside Fishbowl (IOF) in EFL classrooms has helped both lecturers and learners in many different ways. It has a positive impact on both of them. Regarding students, IOF application in the classroom has helped them to think and organize their thoughts. As a result, they have started to manage their learning and to gain a sense of responsibility. Moreover, they have shown readiness to speak in the target language with more confidence and fluency. Students have begun to have opportunities so they can show how good they are in speaking and sharing ideas.
This study tried to find out the correlation between motivation and English proficiency of EFL learners. The sample consisted of two hundred and six students of the fourth semester of Law Faculty of Sriwijaya University. This study used correlational study. The instruments to collect the data were questionnaire of English learning motivation and TOEFL Test The result showed that: 1) there was no significant correlation between students’ motivation and their English since the significant level (sig. 0.071) was higher than 0.05, 2), students’ motivation did not contribute significantly to their English proficiency, the contribution was only 0.2% because the students had different motivation to join English classes. Theresults of this study can be used by lecturers, learners of English, and other concerned parties to concern more about motivation in relation to English proficiency.
