The increasing number of children with specific needs is one of worlds current issue. Children with specific needs face various health issue, have limitation, emotional and behavioral delays, limited intellectual development, and also little participation at school or social activity. Those issues leads to children self-relience, which one of them is personal cleanliness social support such as from family support is needed by children with specific needs so they able do their personal cleanliness. The aim of this study is to learn about how to care personal cleanliness of children with specific needs. This study using scoping review methods. Author use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT, or AND NOT) to trace journal in conjunction with keyword "personal hygiene" AND "children with specific needs" as for inclusion criteria journal must already indexed by Scopus at least Sinta 4 journal and in range of year 2017 until 2022. The conclusion of this study is there are high correlation between family support and personal cleanliness of children with specific needs in 11 (eleven) analyzed publications. Children with specific needs have complex issue in personal cleanliness so they needs support from their family, including their parents or kinsman and needs specific formula in their personal cleanliness education.
Potty training assistance for children with Down syndrome is challenging because it takes longer to adapt and has physical and cognitive limitations. In addition, educating children with Down syndrome differs from one child to another. The study aimed to explore the role of parents or caregivers in teaching the potty training process to children with Down syndrome at States Special Needs School Semarang. The research was conducted using a qualitative phenomenological approach to determine parental participation in potty training in children with Down syndrome. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews and observations supplemented by field notes which were then transcribed verbatim. The search for informants used a purposive sampling method selected based on specific considerations with a total of 10 primary informants and those who cared for children with Down syndrome aged 7-14 years and were still in elementary school and two triangulated informants from teachers. Data analysis was carried out thematically. The results of the study found that the knowledge of most caregivers about potty training was limited to taking their children to the toilet, most of the children with Down syndrome were unable to urinate independently, the caregiver's difficulties when teaching potty training were problems communicating with the child, the caregiver's task in the potty training process was as follows: by finding solutions to make it easier for children to communicate and understand children's conditions. This qualitative research concludes that there is a theme regarding the role of caregivers with Down syndrome in potty training: caregiver knowledge about potty training, the behavior of children with Down syndrome during potty training, caregiver difficulties in potty training, and the caregiver's role or task in potty training.
Background: Despite their flaws, children with down syndrome require caretakers' involvement, especially in personal hygiene. Caretakers play a critical role in meetings in terms of cleanliness. This study investigates the role of caretakers in the Personal Hygiene of children with down syndrome. Subjects and Method:This study was a qualitative phenomenological approach conducted at Public Disability-Specific Schools in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Purposive sampling of 10 people based on specific criteria is used to find participants. In-depth interviews, observations, and field notes were used to collect data. Results: This study has resulted that the role of caretakers in the personal hygiene of children with down syndrome is divided into five themes: developing communication skills with children, providing examples through specific media, providing surrounding support, providing a reward or consequences, and modeling. Conclusion:The role of caretakers has a significant impact on the learning of personal hygiene, so strategies are required to enable children to carry out self-cleaning tasks thoroughly.
