Covid-19 has pushed honorary teachers in West Papua to switch from offline teaching to online teaching as not all teachers, especially honorary teachers, are prepared well to encounter a pandemic situation; for this reason, exploring the honorary teachers' sight to find a better educational consideration became necessary while mostly EFL teachers are honorary. This study explored the honorary EFL teachers' perceptions of the online teaching process during the Covid pandemic-19 at MTs Negeri Kota Sorong, and the obstacle encountered based on internet access, signal condition, and students' understanding. The recent study used a qualitative approach with an interview used as a data collection technique. The sub-indicators for perceiving the online teaching process were the online teaching process, lesson planning, online teaching application used, teaching facilities utilized, teaching media applied, teaching method acted, and teaching materials encountered. While internet access, signal condition, and students' understanding were the sub-indicators for online teaching barriers. The participants in this study were four honorary EFL teachers of MTs Negeri Kota Sorong. The results showed that mostly the honorary teachers had negative perceptions of the online teaching process in a pandemic covid-19 situation, and the teachers perceived that internet connection, signal conditions, and reaching students' understanding had been the issues in the teaching and learning process online.
Pentingnya penguasaan bahasa asing sebagai salah satu bahasa internasional yang mampu menjadi penunjang dalam dunia kerja menjadi salah satu hal yang dibutuhkan oleh manusia di zaman penuh teknologi ini. Hasil observasi awal di Panti Asuhan Putri Muhammadiyah Al-Amin Kota Sorong, seluruh anak asuh di panti tersebut masih memiliki kemampuan Bahasa Inggris yang lemah. Kegiatan pemberdayaan melalui Bimbingan Belajar Bahasa Inggris telah dilakukan selama kurang lebih tiga bulan melalui kegiatan Pengabdian pada Masyarakat Kuliah Kerja Nyata (PPM KKN). Tahapan kegiatan tersebut telah dilakukan mulai dari persiapan, analisis kebutuhan, penyusunan silabus dan jadwal, pelaksanaan pre tes, pelaksanaan bimbingan belajar, pos tes hingga penjajakan kerja sama antar lembaga. Hasil luaran kegiatan ini adalah satu pengetahuan peserta belajar telah meningkat yaitu kemampuan dasar Bahasa Inggris peserta mencapai target, yaitu lebih dari 50% siswa yang memperoleh nilai dengan kategori baik (71 %) dan 19 % siswa dengan perolehan kategori sangat baik.Â
This research aims at finding out the types of code-switching used by the students in the English as a foreign language classroom interaction. The research employed descriptive qualitative research design. The subjects were the students of English language education program. All of them used Papuan Malay language in their daily life but in class they used Indonesian language as mother tongue and English language as target language. The researcher findings that there are five types of code-switching that used by the students in EFL classroom interaction. Those Inter – sentential, Intra – sentential, and tag switching. For each type, the switch frequently used was as a clause, then as a word, and the last was as a sentence. They used them to clarify what they said because they tended to repeat or tried to translate the words again, and another reason was switching the words into the daily language was one of the ways to use to continue speaking. The impact of code-switching on TEFL was extremely beneficial since it may be utilized as a method or tactic in teaching English content, pushing students to talk, evaluating problems, and encouraging students to keep speaking in EFL classroom.
