Palavras-chave: Design participativo; Inovação social; Cidadania; This article deals with social innovation through design from the analysis of methodologies applied in the practice of participatory design together with communities with fragile social contexts. Using the idea of scenario building guided by design, we take into account the possibility of creating new forms of design action from the consideration of issues such as: contextual character, democratic conditions of action and change in the paradigm of social development. From then on, we discuss how the social and projectual dimensions of design coexist the social problems and how the translation processes of possible solutions to them happen through the collaboration between designers and community. The analyses presented are part of the author's thesis and present a possibility of systematization of more horizontal and democratic participatory design processes.
