This article aimed at describing students' difficulties in writing researchbased paper. It is expected that lecturers who teach research methodology course will get a lot of benefit from this study. The respondents of this research was 131 students who conducted a research which employed qualitative design and wrote their articles which showed the research results. The data gained showed that the university students' who became the respondents had difficulties in writing research-based article related toqualitative research design. The difficulties were: most of the students showed their difficulties in identifying the research instrument, data sources, and relevant sources that support their research. Next, they were also had obstacle in explaining or discussing the result of their research. It means that they did not understand that qualitative researchdesign employs snowballing technique and enabling the researcher to generate theory.
This research aimed at describing the correlation between students’ internet literacy and their passive vocabulary size. The findings of this research were expected to predict how much the two variables correlate. This research was beneficial as inter internet users in Indonesia were growing in numbers (55 billion users in 2011), and most of them were students. Their intensity in using internet would affect on education, later. Thus, it was important to see whether there was a strong positive correlation between students’ internet literacy and their passive vocabulary size. Passive vocabulary became the limitation of this research as it could explain how big students’ ‘vocabulary reservoir,’ and thus, it could predict the active vocabulary size. This was a correlational research involving randomly 81 senior students of English Education Department. The instruments used were a set of vocabulary test, and a questionnaire on internet literacy. Using two-tailed significant level, it is found that the result of rho is -0,001 with 0,993 of significant level. Therefore, there is no correlation between students’ internet literacy and their passive vocabulary size. It can be concluded that there are other factors which affect students’ passive vocabulary.
The main purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using Pre-reading activities on students' reading comprehension and their preference of Pre-reading activities. There were 55 first year college-aged students participating this study. The first experimental group was treated using Pre-reading Questioning, while the second experimental group using Pre-reading Vocabulary List. The primary data were collected from the students' post-test, while the supporting data were gained through questionnaire. The primary data were collected, then analyzed by using independent ttest formula. The result of the t-test analysis was 0.041 (0.041<0.05), which means students who were taught using Pre-reading Questioning outperformed those who were taught using Pre-reading Vocabulary List in reading comprehension. From the questionnaire, Pre-reading Questioning gained higher preference from Pre-reading Vocabulary List. Pre-reading Questioning makes the students understand the text better and gives them opportunity to practice thinking and analyzing than Pre-reading Vocabulary List. It means that applying Pre-reading Questioning is an effective way to teach reading comprehension.
As speaking requires the students to perform orally, this skill is considered difficult by some students. This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of Video Blog (Vlog) on students' speaking skill. It used pretest-posttest control group research design. It was conducted at SMKS PGRI Pakisaji. The sample of the study were the ten grades of AKL students as the experiment class and the ten grades of OTKP students as the control class. The total of both classes were 36 students. The researcher used a speaking test as the instrument to collect the data. The result of post-test indicated that the students in experimental class has higher score than the control class on their speaking test. The result of statistical analysis reported that there was a significant difference scores between experimental and control class. According to the finding of this study, it could be concluded that vlog can be one of the best new media in teaching speaking and it is recommended to applied on teaching speaking process, because the students who are taught by using Vlog have better achievement in speaking skill. Therefore, Vlog is an effective media in teaching speaking skill.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
