In traditional knowledge-based system development environments, the fundamental representational building blocks are mechanisms such as frames, rules, and attached procedures. The KEE system has been extended to include both a context (worlds) system and a truth maintenance system.
MotivationI present the results of an czperiment in retrofitting objects into an elisting system. I describe a technology, based on automatic redefinition of ezisting functions, that allowed alternative implementations of the fundamental data types of the KEflM knowlcdgebased system building tool. This technology G applicable in environments where the system's procedures can be subject to programmatic manipulation. It allows the retrofitting of objects into the implementations of other eziating systems. The experience of retrofitting objects into KEE provides insight into the issues of the interaction of semantic classes and data representation and granularity in object-based systems.'
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
