Wittig Synthesis and X‐Ray Structure of a 26‐Membered Macrocycle Containing two Bipyridine Units
Wittig‐type macrocyclization of bipyridinedicarbaldehyde 5 with bis(phosphonium bromide) 6 leads to the new bipyridinophanes 7 8. The X‐ray structural analysis of 8 reveals a step‐type conformation, which according to 1H‐NMR results is also present in solution.
