Objective To assess the feasibility and results of perhospitalization was 2 (2-4) nights. A shortened fibrotic ureter prevented the laparoscopic completion forming retroperitoneoscopic dismembered fibringlued pyeloplasty in a clinical series of patients with of the second case, which was converted to an open procedure. Follow-up imaging after 1-2 years showed pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction. Patients and methods A balloon-dissecting four-port satisfactory upper tract drainage in those cases completed successfully. One patient developed a renal extraperitoneal laparoscopic approach was used in each of nine patients (aged 21-60 years) to dismember pelvic calculus that was treated by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. the PUJ over a previously placed double-pigtail stent, insert stay sutures to appose the urothelium and Conclusion This technique is associated with a significantly shorter operating time than historical complete the pelvi-ureteric anastomosis using fibrin glue. Anastomoses were assessed by diuresis renogralaparoscopic controls, and with a significantly lower post-operative opiate analgesic requirement and phy 3 months after surgery and at yearly intervals thereafter.shorter post-operative hospitalization than in a contemporaneous series of patients undergoing open Results Eight of the nine attempted procedures were completed successfully in a median (range) operating pyeloplasty. However, longer term follow-up is needed to fully assess the performance of these anastomoses.
1967, 1,[80][81][82] 3leeding peptic ulcer accounts for 80 to 85 ! ; ; of hospital admissions for gastrointestinal haemorrhage (Tanner, 1954 Avery Jones, 1957Aird, 1957). Improved supportive therapy and greater co-operation between physicians and surgeons have lowered the mortality in this condition. Mortality is influenced by the age of the patient, the severity of the bleeding, and the site of the ulcer. Patients over the age of 50 who continue to bleed may die unless treated surgically (Avery Jones, 1947). Chinn, Littell, Badger, and Beams (1956) pyloroplasty after dealing with a duodenal ulcer was so unsatisfactory that a gastroenterostomy was added. The mortality from operations is shown in Table I, and there is an apparent bias in favour of conservative surgery except in the treatment of erosions. One of the criticisms of conservative surgery has been a high incidence of postoperative bleeding. This is examined in Table II
SUMMARY
Isolated rat kidneys were perfused with solutions containing DMSO, cooled to‐25d̀ C. and then stored in the frozen state at‐79d̀ C. for one hour. They were then thawed, rewarmed and the DMSO removed.
The experimental kidney was then linked by means of a cannula in the renal artery to the aorta of a second rat and the urine excreted from it collected.
The urea‐content of this urine was compared with the urea‐content of the blood of the perfusor rat. Thirteen experiments were performed. In five of these the urine‐urea/blood‐urea ratio was greater than one, thus indicating preservation of tubular function in these kidneys after they had been stored at ‐79d̀ C. for one hour.
