Surgical management of symptomatic spinal metastases, in particular anterior decompression, is of benefit in most metastatic lesions in terms of satisfactory postoperative outcome and quality of life. However, in patients with melanoma or lung carcinoma, the authors advocate spinal surgery only in very exceptional cases.
A cyclic alkyl(amino)carbene readily reacts with SbCl3 to form the corresponding Sb(III) adduct. One-electron reduction gives rise to the first example of a neutral antimony-centered radical characterized in solution. Two-electron reduction affords a Lewis base stabilized chloro-stibinidene, whereas three-electron reduction gives an antimony diatomic species capped by two carbenes. The radical has been characterized by EPR spectroscopy, while the structure of the other three species has been ascertained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In these four species, the formal oxidation state of the metalloid diminishes from III, to II, to I, and finally 0.
Computerized knowledge management is becoming a vital component of quality diabetes care. Prompting follow-up procedures, computerized insulin therapy adjustment using home glucose records, remote feedback, and counseling have documented benefits in improving diabetes-related outcomes.
The integration of molecular structures into microscopic electrode arrays is achieved by dielectrophoresis of gold nanoparticles in electrode gaps. Using microelectrodes realized by photolithography, we demonstrate here the generation of pearl chain arrangements of nanoparticles in structures accessible for standard technologies. To preserve the individual particle structures in the final nanowire arrangement, various strategies were employed. An electrical characterization of the pearl chains yielded an Ohmic behavior. The effect of increased current on these structures is studied at the ultramicroscopic level.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
