Synopsis
Perennial grasses performed poorly when grown in association with legumes under irrigation in temperate central Mexico. Unassociated alfalfa and medium red clover were outstanding in the Valleys of Mexico and Toluca, respectively.
These findings have served to orientate the research and extension programs devoted to increasing forage production within these milk‐shed areas. The results have also emphasized the need for experimentation under local conditions of forage resources commonly utilized in other temperate regions.
