Objective: The aim of this study was to see the maternal and fetal outcome of preterm pre labor rupture membrane and to identify the risk factors for preterm pre labor rupture membrane. Methods and Material: This was a cross-sectional descriptive type study carried out in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, during April to September, 2005 (6months) in the Department of Obstetric and Gynecology. 50 pregnant women with preterm premature rupture of the membrane (gestational age 29-0 to 36-6 weeks) were included in this study. Results: The mean age of the women was 27.24±6.28years and 36% of them more than 30 years old. Sixty two percent women were multi gravid .Socio-economic condition, level of education and antenatal care of the women was low. Median gestational age of the patient was 35 weeks. Fifty six percent had previous history of PROM, preterm delivery, abortion, MR and dilatation and curettage. Sixty two percent women had history of sexual activity between 2 to 7days. Seventy two percent women had UTI, anaemia, and lower genital tract infection. Mean duration of the latent period was 18.87 ±16.17hours and time interval of rupture membrane and delivery was 27.60 ± 21.127 hours. Eighty four percent patient delivered by vaginal route and Fifty four percent delivered within 24 hours of ruptured membrane. Forty two percent newborn suffered from neonatal asphyxia, respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal jaundice and neonatal sepsis. Thirty two percent women suffered from chorioamnionitis, abruptio placent and endometritis.Conclusion: PPROM is malnutrition and poverty related disease. Antenatal care is an important tool to prevent PPROM by identifying the risk factors and its management. Steroid for fetal lung maturity, antibiotics to prevent fetal and maternal infection and induction and /or augmentation of labor will speeded delivery and reduce hospital stay and infection. The present study was undertaken with the aim of investigating the isolation and quantification of microorganisms from the citrus fruit samples collected from different areas of Dhaka city. Out of ten samples studied, the range of total viable bacterial proliferation was approximately 102 to 107 cfu/g. Among the specific bacterial pathogens, prevalence of Klebsiella spp. was found in five samples, Listeria spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Pseudomonas spp. in four samples and Vibrio spp. in three samples only. The presumptive identification of these isolates was done by the conventional cultural, microscopic and biochemical tests. Fungal growth was also observed in four samples within the range of 1.2×103 to 3.6×103 cfu/g. Interestingly, Prunus mume/domestica (plum) showed the anti-bacterial activity against all the laboratory bacterial isolates tested. Among other samples, Tanarindus bacilus (tamarind) was found to exhibit activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas spp., Salmonella spp., Vibrio spp., and Listeria spp. On the other hand, Monifera indica (mango) showed anti-bacterial efficacy against E. coli, Staphylococcus spp. and Listeria spp. and Citrus limon (lemon) only against Pseudomonas spp. and Listeria spp. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/sjm.v3i1.22750 Stamford Journal of Microbiology, Vol.3(1) 2013: 30-33
A field trial was conducted at Agronomy Farm of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute to find out the effect of crop establishment method and nutrient management on yield performance of BRRI developed short-duration Aman rice var. BRRI dhan62 during July to October 2016. The trial comprised of four crop establishment methods viz., M1 = BRRI recommended puddle transplanting, M2 = System of rice intensification (SRI) method (9-days old seedling transplantation), M3 = Sprouted seed in line sowing and M4 = Sprouted seed in broadcasting and three nutrient management levels viz.,N1 = BRRI recommended nutrient management, N2 = Soil test-based nutrient management, N3 = Control. The study was conducted in a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The result showed that planting methods had significant effects on the yield of rice. The SRI method along with BRRI recommended fertilizer dose produced the maximum grain yield of 4.49 t ha-1 which was statistically similar with that produced in SRI method day- and soil test-based nutrient management combination. The highest gross margin (Tk. 36,308.00 ha-1) and cost benefit ratio (2.06) were observed in direct seeding of sprouted seed in line sowing method along with BRRI recommended fertilizer dose. So, direct seeding of sprouted seed in line could be a suitable planting method due to reduction of 26.0% production cost associated with seedling raising and transplanting operations. Antifungal potentials of nine fungicides and eight plant parts extracts were tested in opposition to Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. and F. solani (Mart.) Sacc. – the two pathogens, isolated from wilted roots of brinjal plants. Efficiency gradients observed in the present study expressed that Bavistin and Tall were the best inhibiting agent against the in vitro growth of the test pathogenic fungi. Among aqueous extracts of eight plant parts significant inhibition of the growth of the pathogens was observed with Azadiracta indica (leaf), Zingiber officinale (rhizome) and Asparagus racemosus (root) at 20% concentration.
