Collaborative Learning (CL) is an approach to teaching and learning that involves a group of learners working together. The study aims to assess collaborative learning effects in the 21st-century teaching-learning landscape, particularly on the students' cognitive, affective and psychomotor dimensions. This study utilized the descriptive-evaluative method of research with a validated questionnaire as the primary data gathering instrument. Results showed that females dominate male students as to their number in first and second-year levels. The majority of the respondents aged 20 and below have participated in various collaborative activities and assignments in and out of the class with a typical size of 5 to 7 group members. Collaborative learning found to have a very high effect on Students' Academic Learning (cognitive), Collaborative Skills (affective) and least on Skills development (psychomotor). The researchers recommend that male students be engaged in group dynamics and learning activities; it must involve teenagers and suffice their activities' preference. Activities that demand greater participation, drills and exercises, and thinking activities must allow the students to develop their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions for holistic learning.
This paper explores possible scenarios for the Research Culture of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), to be known as Polytechnic State University of Bicol (PSUB). The paper utilized Jim Dator’s four archetypes of alternative futures to construct PSUB’s Research Culture possible scenarios by 2030. This paper highlights the assumption that the research culture in PSUB is of world class quality and all of its faculty members are actively involved in research, its disciplined, collapsed, transformative, or business as usual scenarios. Four plausible scenarios have surfaced in this paper: Progressive Research Culture, Lax and Deficit Research Culture, Sophisticated Research Culture, and Transformative Research Culture. The article explored areas for a preferred future by 2030. It requires multiple drivers along faculty, students, administration and community for a better research culture. This study proved to be useful in crafting and anticipating the future scenarios of PSUB’s research culture. Preliminary as it may, this study highlighted important building blocks of the four future scenarios. Dator’s framework was proved to be very useful in developing the four scenarios, the use of other future study tools will further amplify plausible scenarios for the Polytechnic State University of Bicol.
Everyone has lost their footing due to the pandemic. The academic community was unprepared, leaving both professors and students bewildered and without a sense of direction. The goal at the time was to overcome the calamity of educational discontinuity. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Education goal aims “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” relative to this SDG and the surge of the pandemic, digital divide become prominent, altering the course of educational landscape in all levels across public and private institutions. In the Bicol region, education was delivered in many various forms and variability, predicting the future through strategic foresight could propel the region to a transformed future. This paper discusses in detail the status of education in the region and the possible scenarios using Jim Dator’s Future Scenario Archetypes, Causal Layered Analysis and through Scenario Planning Plus. Four plausible scenarios have surfaced in this paper: STUG-nation of Education, Unstable and Disarray of Educational elements, Flowing-restrained Education, and ORAGON Education. It requires multiple drivers as examined through the PESTEL that includes political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal aspects. This study proved useful in crafting and anticipating the future scenarios of Bicol Region’s education. Preliminary as it may, this study highlighted important building blocks of future scenarios through foresight methods. Dator’s framework was proved to be very useful in developing the four scenarios, the use of other future study tools will further amplify plausible scenarios for the education of Bicol region and beyond.
Hydrometeorological hazards like flooding are inevitable; these affect agriculture and impact the economy for a prolonged duration. This research study was conducted to determine and assess the flood control measures in the municipality of Nabua in the Province of Camarines Sur, Philippines as bases for developing community-based flood control interventions. Using the descriptive evaluative survey method with a validated questionnaire as the primary data gathering instrument, gathered data were computed, tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted. It has shown that the degree of implementation of the flood control measures is high for structural and non-structural flood management. The null hypothesis is rejected. The difference between the responses of the respondents was significant. The extent of the effect of the factors directly influences the implementation of the flood control measures. It can be concluded that the Municipality of Nabua controls flooding primarily through its flood control infrastructures that are strategically situated in the municipality, human resources, and collaboration and linkages. Moreover, the responses of the respondents are significantly different. Improvement and upgrading of its physical facilities and equipment to acquire real-time information; intensifying its campaign and information drive to build a more vital link between the municipality and its constituents, and information dissemination using social media and communications technology can increase awareness, mitigation, control, and response to flooding are thereby recommended. The community-based interventions on flood control can serve as a guide and an eye-opener for the local government unit of Nabua to promulgate and enact municipal ordinances about flood control.
