This article examines how immigrant adolescent development is shaped by the cultural and linguistic practice of language brokering. Framed by theories on interdependent/independent developmental scripts, the changing experiences and views of 12 Latino/a children of U.S. immigrants over 5 years were analyzed. It was found that translating is a relational, interdependent activity in which adolescents both help and receive help from family members. As adolescents, they extend this helping orientation beyond their household, but in these public spaces, they sometimes meet up with other developmental scripts. This article's examination of brokering's effects on immigrant adolescence leads to the discussion that one must consider the manner in which all adolescents and parents are negotiating independent and interdependent worlds.
showing azole resistance according to the EUCAST 9.3.2 methodology were molecularly identified and the cyp51A gene was studied in A. fumigatus sensu stricto isolates. Results: Eight hundred and forty-seven isolates from 725 patients were collected in 29 hospitals (A. fumigatus sensu stricto (n ¼ 828) and cryptic species (n ¼ 19)). Isolates were mostly from the lower respiratory tract (94.0%; 797/847). Only cryptic species were amphotericin B resistant. Sixty-three (7.4%) out of the 847 isolates were resistant to 1 azole(s). Azole resistance was higher in cryptic species than in A. fumigatus sensu stricto (95%, 18/19 vs. 5.5%, 45/828); isavuconazole was associated to the lowest number of non-wild type isolates. The dominant mechanism of resistance was the presence of TR 34 -L98H substitutions (n ¼ 24 out of 63). Out of the 725 patients, 48 (6.6%) carried either cryptic species (n ¼ 14) or A. fumigatus sensu stricto (n ¼ 34; 4.7%) resistant isolates. Aspergillus fumigatus sensu stricto harbouring either the TR 34 -L98H (n ¼ 19) or TR 46 /Y121F/T289A (n ¼ 1) mutations were detected in patients in hospitals located at 7/24 studied cities. Discussion: Of the patients, 6.6% carry azole-resistant A. fumigatus sensu lato isolates in Spain. TR 34 -L98H is the dominant cyp51A gene substitutions, although its presence is not widespread.
Introduction. Cardiotoxicity represents a major limitation for the use of anthracyclines or trastuzumab in breast cancer patients. Data from longitudinal studies of diastolic dysfunction (DD) in this group of patients are scarce. The objective of the present study was to assess the incidence, evolution, and predictors of DD in patients with breast cancer treated with anthracyclines.Methods. This analytical, observational cohort study comprised 100 consecutive patients receiving anthracycline-based chemotherapy (CHT) for breast cancer. All patients underwent clinical evaluation, echocardiogram, and measurement of cardiac biomarkers at baseline, end of anthracycline-based CHT, and at 3 months and 9 months after anthracycline-based CHT was completed. Fifteen patients receiving trastuzumab were followed with two additional visits at 6 and 12 months after the last dose of anthracycline-based CHT. A multivariate analysis was performed to find variables related to the development of DD. Fifteen of the 100 patients had baseline DD and were excluded from this analysis.
We jointly invert gravity and magnetic data following a Monte Carlo method that provides estimation for a 3D model of the structure and physical properties of the medium. In particular, the model layer geometry and the density and magnetic susceptibility fields within layers are estimated, and their uncertainties are described with posterior probabilities. This method combines the gravity and magnetic data with prior information of the mass density and magnetic susceptibility statistics, and statistical constraints on the model interface positions. The resulting model realizations jointly comply with the observations and the prior statistical information.
