The sample was composed of 32 players from 16 countries participating in the XV Pan American Games. The players were compared according to their playing position, i.e. middle blocker and defensive specialist. In order to analyze the variables we used the T-Student test with Bonferroni correction and MANOVA to compute the difference in the somatotype. Results: The blockers' physical types were classified as mesomorph-endomorph, and the defensive specialists' as mesomorph-endomorphic. Analyzing the performance, semifinalist players were shown to be different from players belonging to the last four teams, about physical characteristics. Conclusion: We conclude that the differences found between middle blockers and defensive specialists are due to the requirements of each function in the game. Concerning the performance, we verified that the physical type can be an important determinant for success. DESCRIPTORS Volleyball. Anthropometry. Objective: Verify the existence of the influence of personal history, diagnosis and health body strength in fragility of elderly.Method: cross-sectional study with quantitative approach. Participated in 21 elderly practitioners of physical activity in the city of João Pessoa/Paraíba, Brazil. A demographic tool, scale of fragility of Lawton and Brody and Indody 720, being the data processed by the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 19.0, which allowed the preparation of statistical analyses with the models and techniques employed for the construction and validation of the score. Results:The elderly have an average of 6.92 ± 65.9 years of age, and 95.2% (20) female, 57.1% (12) married. As for factors evaluated: diabetes, hypertension, tachycardia, dizziness, headache, use of medication and blurred vision, no causes significant changes in the classification of the fragility of the patient. Not realize significant changes with the Mann-Whitney tests of hypotheses or the Fisher exact, the classification of Lawton did not influence the classification of the State of the patient as to the diagnosis of health and muscle strength.
To compare the anthropometric profile and cognitive performance of elite and non-elite beach volleyball athletes. Comparative and descriptive study. The sample was composed by 8 athletes, divided in 2 groups: elite (n = 4) and non-elite (n = 4). They were evaluated in anthropometric parameters age, weight and height, and the variables of the cognitive performance evaluated by the battery of computerized tests CogState® (Brief Battery): Detection (Simple Reaction Time); Identification (Choice Reaction Time); One Back Speed (Working Memory); One Back Acuracy (Short Term Memory). Data were classified as non-parametric with the dispersion curve analysis performed by the Shapiro Wilk test. Anthropometric profile and cognitive performance variables were compared with the Mann Whitney U test between the groups. The procedures were performed with a significance level of p < 0.05 using the Statistical Package for the Social Science - SPSS®, Version 25.0. It was observed that there was significant difference in the anthropometric profile in the variable age (sig = 0.029) and in the cognitive performance significant differences occurred in the variables Detec (sig = 0.029) and Indent (sig = 0.029) of elite and not elite athletes of the beach volleyball modality. Elite and non-elite beach volleyball athletes present significant differences in the anthropometric variable (Age) and in the variables of cognitive performance (Detection and Identification) where elite athletes have a better cognitive performance than the non- elite athletes.
