With steady increase in the wind power penetration, regulatory standards for grid connection have evolved. The regulatory standards require the wind generation system to ridethrough disturbances such as faults and support the grid during such events. This fault ride-through capability is determined by its corresponding critical clearing time (CCT). Conventionally, determination of CCT involves a large number of trial and error iterations that requires repetitive runs of related time-domain simulations. A method is proposed in this paper to compute CCT using non-conventional approach that avoids running related time-domain simulations several times. This work proposes a method to enhance the fault-ride through capability of squirrel cage induction generator based wind farms using Dynamic Voltage Regulator (DVR). The DVR controller is designed to work under fault conditions, which improves the critical clearing time of the system by injecting real power required by the system. The detailed simulation results are presented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
