Background: Gloriosa superba L. (G. superba) is a perennial creeper and climbs up to 5-7 meters. It belongs to the Liliaceae family and is native to Africa and South-East Asia. It is also categorised as an endangered plant may be due to its extensive use. Objective: The objective of the present review is to explore anticancer potential with other pharmacological activities of G. superba and its active constituents. Results: G. superba reported to have many chemical constituents including colchicine, β-sitosterol, glumicolchicine, blumicolchicine, 2-OH-6-MeO-benzoic acid, glorisine, tannins, colchicoside, cornigerine, and many more. Most of them are effective against cancer, gout, arthritis, ulcers, bleeding piles, impotence, snakebites, skin diseases, and leprosy. G. superba reported to have pharmacological activities like anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, abortifacient, anti-ulcerogenic, anti-helminthic and antimicrobial. Conclusion: The present review summarizes the anticancer potential of G. superba and its constituents. However, detail study is required to establish it as an effective anticancer drug.

Background: Abrus precatorius L. (A. precatorius) is a valuable plant belongs to family Fabaceae which is a pea family, commonly this plant is known as Gunja or Jequirity, significantly found throughout India mainly Himalaya to Southern India and Ceylon. It is considered a poisonous plant due to the presence of abrin. Objective: A. precatorius has many pharmacological and biologically active constituents, such as alkaloids, glycosides, and flavonoids in different parts of the plant. The objective of this review is to provide a retrospective study based on its anticancer potential. MethodsMethods: We searched various online database online (Bentham, PubMed, ScienceDirect, ACS, RSC) and scientific publications from the library. The criteria of review were based on A. precatorius, and its application as chemopreventive possessing medicinal value. Results: Recent studies of A. precatorius are based on the isolation, characterization, and pharmacological evaluation of different secondary metabolites. These constituents possess good cytotoxic properties against various cancer cell lines including breast, lung, liver, ovarian, prostate and leukaemia. A. precatorius is also reported to have anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, abortifacient, antioxidant, anthelmintic activity, antifertility, nephroprotective, and immunomodulatory activities. Conclusion: Present review summarizes the anticancer potential of Abrus precatorius L. and its constituents. However, extensive research is required to establish it as a potent chemopreventive agent.
