The induced ESR spectra in silicate glasses is examined with particular emphasis on the reported ESR line centered at g -1.96. This resonance is shown to arise from an induced center associated with titanium which is present in the glass as a trace impurity. The optical absorption band corresponding to this center was observed, at 2.4 eV, in the Gaussian resolution of the induced optical absorption spectrum. It is argued that the interpretation of induced ESR and optical absorption spectra in silicate glasses should take into account this induced titanium center in all glasses whose purity has not been the object of considerable attention.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
