In this paper we investigate the equilibrium uptake of neutral, basic, and acidic amino acids by strongly basic anion-exchange resins in the hydroxyl form. Because homogeneous and heterogeneous equilibria take place, both solution and ion-exchange equilibria were studied. A model that takes account of the variation of the separation factor with the ionic fraction in solution was used to correlate the experimental data.10.
A novel process for electrodialysis of sodium chloride has been developed. This process allows the simultaneous and chlorine free production of high purity hydrochloric acid and caustic soda. The main result of this work is the substitution of chlor-alkali electrolysis, hydrogenchloride synthesis and absorption by electrodialysis. Special characteristic of the process is the use of a hydrogen consuming anode in a four chamber electrodialysis stack. The temperature rise due to the electrodialysis process is used to produce by vacuum evaporation high purity hydrochloric acid with a concentration of 36 mass-%. The major advantages of the process are the reduction of process steps, no production and handling of chlorine, a compact construction and low energy consumption.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
