The rapid growth of cities and their inflation is a big problem, especially in the last years. this growth is accompanied by such problems like population growth, housing need, low level of services, random expansion, traffic congestion as well as pollution of the environment, which leads to a decline in the quality of life in Baghdad, the population are concentration in Baghdad therefore that leads to imbalance of development among cities and productive concentration for service projects in a mega cities, causing migration from other provinces In search of a better life. The main objective of the new cities is to relieve pressure on major cities and guide the growth of cities. Basmaya city it’s a new city project adopted from Iraqi national investment commission, this paper aimed to strategic analysis of this city and evaluate the real situation for this project by internal environment analysis, external environment analysis in addition to measurement of performance strategic gaps.
The research attempts to shed light on how to invest the philosophical and intellectual concept of the event in preparing the development plans for the city. Based on it, there are three strategies to read the event (Explanation, Interpretation, and Deconstruction) that are regularly responded to it with three strategies represented by (Revitilaization, Renewal, and Reform). Through the use of reading and response strategies, and the corresponding planning policies represented by: preservation, rehabilitation, and redevelopment. The research adopted an analytical and descriptive methodology for some world experiences for the eventful cities, such as Warsaw, which reflects (Explanation - Revitilaization) and used preservation, Bilbao, which reflects (Interpretation - Renewal) and used rehabilitation, and Tianjin, which reflects (Deconstruction - Reform) and used redevelopment. In an attempt to benefit from these experiences and derive some indicators for each strategy. By applying the derived indicators to the traditional Mosul city, it concluded that the most appropriate strategy for the reconstruction of this city is the strategy of Explanation – Revitalization, which represents preservation because the destruction of the city was intending to crush the historical and cultural value of the city and destroy the local and national identity. The research aims to determine optimal urban planning and design indicators of the urban clusters form in hot arid zones through studying of three urban areas in Baghdad, analyzing their urban indicators which include floor area ratio (FAR), urban clusters height, building density or land coverage, green areas, paved areas, shading ratio and how they affect urban temperature. The research reached the conclusion that air outdoor temperature on urban areas affected primarily by shadows casted on the ground, the effect of shaded area equals (5) times the effect of paved areas and (3.7) times the effect of green areas, this means that increasing urban clusters height in hot arid zones could minimize air outdoor temperature, buildings with (6) levels at minimum seems to be suitable to produce shadows in the ground plane of urban land, Increasing urban volumes in the vertical dimension height and compacting clusters or increasing FAR seem to be a smart strategy to minimize the hot dry climate effect and urban temperature.
The research aims to determine the optimal design aspects of the automated vehicle parking and its areas in relation with the residential and commercial use in Dubai by studying the five cases or projects of automated parking downtown the city of Dubai, also analyzing the urban indicators including capacity, main floor area, number of floors and the total estimated area, the number of entrance and the exit cabins and the time of vehicle retrieval. The research reached the conclusion that the total capacity of automated parking is proportional with the number of entrance and exit cabins, the main floor area, the total area designed for parking (all floors), and the number of elevators. The new general indicator proposed to assess the automated parking efficiency by the number of vehicles for each floor (vehicle\ lift\ floor) showed a total rate of (15 vehicle\lift\floor) in all cases of the research. The research showed the fact that the automated parking in Dubai can hold up to 60% more than conventional parking buildings and the occupation area for the single vehicle is (25 sq. m) in comparison with (42 sq. m) for the parking total constructional area conventional parking areas. It also reached the ratio of automated parking area to the residential and commercial usage building according to urban and constructional aspects and indicators
