Flicker has been a persistent problem since the development and use of electric light sources and it can have negative effects on human biological and psychological health. Recent research assessing flicker has mainly focused on the perception rate and the acceptability of stroboscopic effects. This paper proposes a mathematical simulation approach to predict the stroboscopic effects of both measured and artificial flicker waveforms. This approach constitutes a convenient method to assess the impact of stroboscopic effects caused by different flicker wave shapes. In addition, it could be a useful tool for manufacturers to collect sufficient data to specify the flicker criteria of their products.
