A short wavelength band erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser emitting simultaneously at 1488.9 and 1533.9 nm is demonstrated. The erbium-doped gain fiber has a depressed cladding to suppress emission at longer wavelengths. The shorter emitting wavelength is selected by a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), while the longer emitting wavelength is selected by the strong gain and the reabsorbing effect. Switching between the two operating wavelengths is realized by simply changing the bending curvature of the EDF loop. Experimental setup of the switchable dual-wavelength erbiumdoped fiber ring laser
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
