ABSTRACT:In recent years, the use of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) has been widespread in many applications, including some mission critical applications, and as such security has become one of the major concerns in MANETs. Additionally, the limited processing power and battery life of the devices used in a MANET also prevent the adoption of heavy-duty cryptographic techniques. While traditional misuse-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSes) may work in a MANET, watching for packet dropouts or unknown outsiders is difficult as both occur frequently in both malicious and non-malicious traffic. Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) pose unique security requirements and challenges due to their reliance on open, peer-to-peer models that often don't require authentication between nodes. In this paper, we classify the architectures for intrusion detection systems (IDS) that have been introduced for MANETs. Current IDS's corresponding to those architectures are also reviewed and compared.
Problem statement:A great deal of excitement has recently propelled Mobile Learning to the forefront of educational technology. The exponential growth of mobile technology in the recent years, increase in the availability of high-bandwidth network, advances in wireless technologies and popularity of handheld devices, have opened up new accessibility opportunities for education. Approach: Virtual class room using MANET had been proposed to enhance the m-Learning opportunities in a residential institution. Results: This environment transferred both large and small volume of data to the particular group members. Generally multicasting supports group oriented computing. Such a group oriented service required a suitable multicast routing protocol. Two standard multicast routing protocols were implemented and analyzed for tree (MAODV) and mesh (ODMRP) based approach. The performances of group learning module of VCR had been analyzed using MAODV and ODMRP routing protocols for parameters such as network traffic, the node speed and the network area. Conclusion/Recommendations: Our results showed that many scenarios in VCR environment, MAODV achieved a higher packet delivery ratio than ODMRP.
The topology of the Packet Radio network changes dynamically. The initial slot assignments may cause interferences among the nodes while transmitting. In this paper, I propose a new adaptive transmission scheduling to Packet Radio networks that computes the transmission assignments according to the changes in the topology. The node gathers information from its local neighborhood. In addition, this information is useful to reconstruct the slot assignments. The NATS consists of two stages. During the first stage, it obtained a Minimal TDMA frame length and the corresponding transmission assignments. In the second stage, the NATS finds the maximum node transmissions. Results show that this method improves the guaranteed throughput and outperforms a 10% improvement over [9] .It is also shown that NATS outperforms TTR [19].
