Background: In 1901, ABO blood group was the first human blood group system to be discovered by Karl Landsteiner. After that Rh blood grouping was discovered by Landsteiner and Weiner 1941. Since then for blood transfusion purposes, these two systems have proved to be the most important systems. Agglutinins are the antibodies against red blood cell antigens and based on presence of these antigens and agglutinins human blood is divided into four major blood groups A, B, AB and O. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in the Department of Blood Bank of our college. A total of 600 fit donors were selected in the time period of seven months from 1st March 2017 to 30th September, 2017. The blood samples were obtained by standard procedures of venepuncture. Results: From our study, it is observed that blood group B is commonest with 229 donors (38.16%), followed by A with 173 donors (28.82%), O blood group with 131donors (21.82%) and blood group AB contributes minimum of study subjects, 71 donors (11.82%). Rh+ve donors were 93.83% whereas Rh-ve donors were 6.17% according to our study. Conclusions: The present study is useful in providing information on the status of ABO and Rh-D blood group distribution of Chamba and knowledge of it will help in effective management of regional blood transfusion service of the area.
Knowledge of facial dimensions is important in evaluation of age, sex, and racial differences, in clinical application and in forensic applications. Therefore facial measurements have been used by numerous researchers particularly anatomists, forensic scientists, plastic surgeons, physical anthropologists to establish standardized mean values for skeletal, dental and soft tissue structures as well as for classification of facial morphology of different populations. So the present study aims at studying the morphology of face and its indices of Meitei Male population with a view to find out the secular trend if there be any. The study was conducted on 100 Meitei Males of Bishnupur District, Manipur whose age ranged from 20-60years. Overall findings of the present study show that the present generation is experiencing a secular trend of increasing Morphological Facial Height and decreasing Breadth of Bizygomatic Arch. As for the Facial Index, a positive secular trend is observed in both Morphological Facial Index and Morphological Upper Facial Index, thereby showing a significant difference in frequency percent distribution of facial index between the present and past generation. A tendency from mesoprosopic towards leptoprosopic is observed in the present generation. This study has established the mean facial dimensions of Meitei male adults of Bishnupur District, Manipur.
Diabetes is a major health problem globally and is one of the top five leading causes of death in most developed countries. Substantial evidence suggests that it could reach epidemic proportions particularly in developing and newly industrialized countries. According to estimations, the global burden of type 2 diabetes mellitus for 2010 would be 285 million people which are projected to increase to 438 million in 2030. For India the increase is estimated to be 58%, from 51 million people in 2010 to 87 million in 2030. By the year 2025, 2/3 rd of the world's adults with diabetes will be in developing countries and almost a third in India and China alone. 2 The prevalence ABSTRACT Background: Greek Physician Aretaeus (30-90CE) observed a disease with symptoms such as constant thirst (polydipsia), excessive urination (polyuria) and loss of weight. Based on these findings, he named the condition 'diabetes', meaning 'a flowing through. Diabetes mellitus is a serious public health concern, not just because of its high prevalence or the chronicity, but more importantly because of its life-threatening micro vascular and macro vascular complications which are often silent and undetected until the advanced and irreversible stage has developed, and they may even appear years before the diagnosis of diabetes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on elderly (60 years and above). This study was intended to measure prevalence of diabetes mellitus and associated risk factors. Results: In present study, the prevalence of diabetes was found to be higher among female participants at 41.98% compared to males at 25.90%. Prevalence of diabetes was highest in the age group of 60-70 years. Mean BMI (28.05) of female participants was higher compared to the BMI of the male participants which was 25.52. It was observed that the prevalence of diabetes increases with increase in BMI. Conclusions: Early detection and treatment of these chronic morbidities should be done with regular health checkups and screening of these diseases before they can cause permanent damage to health of individual or death. People should also be educated and counselled about monitoring their health parameters to ensure early detection and treatment.
