Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a multifactorial reproductive healthcare problem affecting 4-12% of women and a leading cause of female infertility worldwide. The potential genetic contributors of PCOS are unclear. However, over the past decade emerging evidence has shown that increased Oxidative Stress (OS) and decreased antioxidant status were often linked with PCOS. The present case-control study was aimed to assess the reactive oxygen species induced OS in women from South India. A total of 164 individuals comprising of 89 patients and 75 controls were enrolled in the present study. For all the subjects, the frequency of micronucleated cells (MNC) in epithelial samples and serum Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were estimated to assess genomic instability and cytotoxicity respectively. A statistically significant difference between the groups were identified with respect to Body Mass Index, Waist to Hip Ratio, luteinizing hormone and prolactin levels (< 0.05), however the mean follicle stimulating hormone was not different between the groups (p = 0.055). The frequency of MN cells (5.89 ± 4.86 vs. 2.24 ± 2.01) and mean serum MDA (360.84 ± 87.08 vs. 301.70 ± 82.82) levels were considerably higher in patients than controls (p = < 0.0001), furthermore, a positive correlation was observed between MNC and MDA levels in patients (r = 0.349, p = 0.0008) and not in controls (r = 0.104, p = 0.37), suggest high OS in PCOS women. Therefore, MN assay and serum MDA levels may serve together or individually as biomarkers of OS in PCOS women.
Background: Buerger-Allen Exercise (BAE) promote Lower Extremity Perfusion (LEP) via the wound healing process and reduce Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms (PNS) among Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients. We study the efficacy of BAE on LEP and PNS among patients with DM. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted prospectively from July to October 2017. Fifty DM patients between the ages of 30 and 75 from both genders were selected using a purposive sampling technique and were assessed for LEP with a manual Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) scale and assessed for PNS with Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI). The BAE was demonstrated for 4 consecutive days. The intervention was repeated five times per day for each patient and the posttest was conducted 5 th day using the same tools. Results: The majority ( n = 75, 75%) were 60–69 age group and 98% had education till primary school. 62% had diabetes and 20% of them had a history of peripheral arterial disease. 50% of participants had mildly impaired perfusion during pretest whereas abnormal neuropathy was seen in more than 70% cases which decreased posttest. A significant difference in PNS was seen after the implementation of BAE in both right LEP (t 48 = 6.81, p < 0.001) and left LEP t 48 = 5.21, p < 0.001). Conclusions: BAE has to be taught to the patients with DM in improving the level of LEP and can be encouraged to practice in the hospital and home care setup.
Background:Although several studies have emphasized the correlation of infant temperament and maternal confidence, this topic has not been explored in different culture and geographical contexts. We study association of maternal confidence, infant temperament, and postpartum depression among postnatal mothers.Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted at Sriramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, India from July 2017 to May 2018. The sample population comprised of mothers at 6 weeks of postnatal period attending the Immunization Clinic. The instruments used were standardized Karitane's Parenting Confidence Scale (KPCS), Bates Infant Characteristics Questionnaire (BICQ), and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from postnatal mothers. Data were analyzed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) ver. 19, using analysis of variance, correlation coefficient, multivariable regression. Results:In this study, 64.40% of the population had high level of confidence and 80% postnatal mothers had no depression. A significant association (t2= 18.15, p = 0.001) was seen between maternal confidence, family support, and place of living. Regression analysis showed that confidence of postnatal mothers has a significant influence (t2= 12.48, p < 0.005) on infant temperament.Conclusions:Two-third of the postnatal mothers had high confidence level with no depression. A positive correlation between postpartum depression and infant temperament was found to be associated with income, parity, and maternal confidence. A significant association was also seen of infant temperament with type of family, income, place of living, and sex of the baby.
Polycystic ovarian disorder (PCOS) is a typical endocrine issue experienced in ladies and is related with issues, for example, menstrual inconsistencies; anovulation; barrenness; hirsuitism; heftiness; insulin opposition, dyslipoproteinemia; and, in later life, with diabetes mellitus and uterine malignant growth. Early determination is fundamental for early treatment and to limit the prompt and constant results. The predominance of PCOS in our general public has not yet been resolved. This investigation is an endeavor to evaluate its pervasiveness of youthful grown-up young ladies 18-25 Years. PCOS was analyzed by utilizing self-appraisal apparatus and BMI, and the predominance was observed to be % of the population.
The aim of this study was to assess the burnout among orthopedic nurses. Totally 30 sample were selected by using simple random sampling methods in orthopedic ward. The result revels that in relation to Emotional exhaustion majority 26 (87%) of them had low level of burnout,4(13%) had moderate level of burnout and none of them had high level of burnout. With regards to depersonalization majority 17 (57%) of them 17 (57%) had moderate level of burnout,13(43%) had low level of burnout and 6(20%) had high level of burnout. With respect to Personal achievement majority 15 (50%) of them had high level of burnout,7(23%) had low level of burnout and 2(7%) had moderate level ofburnout.
