The electrochemical behavior of water has been InvestigatedIn an ambient-temperature molten salt, aluminum chlorlde-Nn -butylpyridinium chloride. It was found that throughout the entire range of melt composition, water undergoes a chemical reaction to generate HCI, which can be electrochemlcally reduced at a platinum electrode. By use of rotating platinum disk experiments, a calibration curve was obtained In the basic melt. This calibration curve was found to be linear up to a water concentration of 50 mM.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
