Treatment of wounds is very important and was subject of different investigations. In this regard, natural substance plays crucial role as complementary medicine. Various studies reported that aloe vera has useful effects on wounds especially cutaneous wounds healing. Therefore in the current review, we examined the effect of aloe vera on cutaneous wound healing and concluded that although aloe vera improves the wound healing as well as other procedures both clinically and experimentally, more studies are still needed to approve the outcomes.
A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of Optimûn, a commercial nucleotide (NT) product, on the growth, haemato‐immunological and serum biochemical parameters and stress responses of Caspian brown trout fingerlings (average initial weight of 12.26 g). A basal diet was supplemented with levels of 0 (control), 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 5 g NT kg−1 to formulate five experimental diets. After 8 weeks of feeding trial, fish fed diet with 2.5 g NT kg−1 had the highest final weight compared with other treatments. The fish fed diets with 2.5 g NT kg−1 had higher blood protein, albumin, albumin/globulin ratio, red blood cells, white blood cells and lymphocyte content and lower alkaline phosphatase. The lysozyme activity in serum was found to be significantly (P < 0.05) greater in fish fed diet with 2.5 g NT kg−1. Concerning both stressors (confinement and salinity stress), fish fed diet with 2.5 g NT kg−1 had lower plasma cortisol and glucose levels. Thus, administration of 2.5 g kg−1 of the Optimûn dietary nucleotide formula is recommended to promote growth and immunity as well as to enhance stress responses of Caspian brown trout.
Regulatory T (Treg) cells take part in immune homeostasis and play a pivotal role in maintaining peripheral tolerance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and function of Treg cells in active and untreated ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. Thirty-two subjects with newly diagnosed UC and 31 age-matched healthy controls were included in this survey. The frequency of Tregs was analyzed with flow cytometry using CD4, CD25, CD127 and FoxP3 markers. We used surface expression of CD4(+), CD25(+) and CD127(low) markers for isolation of a relatively pure Treg population. Suppressive activity of Tregs was determined by measuring their ability to inhibit the proliferation of T responder cells. UC patients had a lower frequency of CD4(+) CD25(+) CD127(low) FoxP3(+) Treg cells. Additionally, Treg cell-mediated suppression was lower in UC patients compared to controls. The frequency and suppressive capacity of Tregs and MFI of FoxP3 were inversely correlated with disease activity. These results suggest that CD4(+) CD25(+) CD127(low) FoxP3(+) Treg cells may contribute to immunopathogenesis of UC, and assessment of Treg cell frequency and function may have clinical value.
BackgroundImpaired fasting glucose (IFG), and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) are two prediabetes conditions which have some correlation with macrovascular disorders. The risk of microvascular complications in these groups is not clear.ObjectivesThe prevalence of albuminuria in subjects with IFG and IGT was evaluated in the present study.Patients and MethodsIn this study three groups of subjects were entered (45 subjects in each group): IFG, IGT, and normal glucose tolerance as control. The urine albumin-creatinine ratio was studied in morning spot urine samples to detect microalbuminuria. The subjects were followed up for two years, and blood sugar and urine albumin and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) were measured every 6 months.ResultsThe prevalence rate of microalbuminuria was 15.5% in the prediabetic groups, while no one had microalbuminuria in the control group (P = 0.005). The prevalence of microalbuminuria in patients with IFG or IGT was not significantly different (17.8% vs. 13.3%) (P = 0.4). Fourteen subjects (4 in IFG group and 10 in IGT group) developed diabetes mellitus within a 2-year follow-up period (P = 0.1). Thirty six percent of subjects with albuminuria, and twelve percent of subjects without albuminuria progressed to diabetes mellitus during a 2-year follow-up (P = 0.02, odd ratio = 4.1; CI95%, 1.13-15.1).ConclusionsThe risk of microalbuminuria in prediabetic subjects is high, and probably prediabetic subjects are at higher risk of progression to diabetes mellitus. We suggest periodically evaluation of albuminuria in prediabetic patients after the diagnosis.
According to our results, it is concluded that for the first time, the expression of MT2 receptor in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues which was in parallel with breast and colon cancer studies and high expression of this receptor in the marginal tissues indicate refractory mechanism which shows the defending role of melatonin in the GI system. Our experiments has not shown any relationship between MT2 receptor expression and grade and clinicopathological features of gastric tumor, so we cannot conclude any relationship between this receptor expression and progression of the tumor, although this expression can be considered as an etiology.
