ARTICLE INFOInterdisciplinary approach could be defined as combining different lessons to illuminate a particular concept, problem or subject from different perspectives. The use of this approach in the learning and teaching, makes the views of teachers who are the implementers of the process, important. The aim of this research is to reveal teachers' views on the use of interdisciplinary approach in Social Studies courses. The research is designed as one of the qualitative research models, the phenomenology pattern. The study group is consisted of 18 volunteer teachers that are working in secondary schools in various provinces of Turkey under the National Ministry of Education. The data obtained were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the research, it is seen that teachers consider the interdisciplinary approach as important and necessary, beneficial and effective in learning and positive in terms of student development. Social studies teachers mostly benefit from Turkish, Science and Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge courses and cooperate with their teachers. Teachers state that while making interdisciplinary connections, they pay attention to learning and understanding of acquisition and learning. Teachers think that the approach is most useful in completing deficiencies. Regarding the limitations of the approach, the teachers state that they have problems in terms of suitability to the subject and competence.

The fact that human beings are open to learning and development due to their nature has enabled all kinds of differentiation and change movements in history to be realized by human hands. The development of humanity in the historical process has been named with many symbolic events as a reflection of the accumulation achieved up to that day. One of them is the process, which covers the last stage of today's world in terms of science, technology and social, and is expressed as society 5.0. The study offers different perspectives on how the technological development brought about by industrialization and the subsequent digital transformation can transform humanity through education in a structure that puts people in the center of Society 5.0 understanding. In addition, the results of the study are important in terms of reflecting the fact that important developments that affect people in technical terms also have a social dimension and can be greatly affected by this in education.
