Background.
Limited published data exist to guide the treatment of pancreas transplant rejection.
Methods.
We reviewed the treatment and outcomes of 158 first episodes of biopsy-proven pancreas rejection between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2016. Within each Banff grade of rejection, we compared response rates and long-term outcomes with steroids alone versus steroids plus antithymocyte globulin (ATG).
Results.
Of 158 pancreas recipients with rejection, 65 were treated with steroids alone. Eighty-three percent of patients with grade I, 60% with grade II, and 33.33% with grade III rejection responded to treatment with steroids alone. Ninety-three patients were treated with steroids plus ATG. The response rates were 69% in grade I, 76% in grade II, and 73% in grade III. Response rates and graft survival were not different with grade I rejection treated with steroids alone versus steroids plus ATG. However, response rates and graft survival were significantly better with grade III rejection treated with the addition of ATG, and graft survival rates were significantly better with grade II rejection treated with the addition of ATG.
Conclusions.
Grade I pancreas rejection can usually be successfully treated with steroids alone, whereas grade II and III rejection should usually be treated with steroids plus ATG, as the addition of ATG improves both response rates and graft survival.
The authors establish a set of six new theta-function identities involving multivariable R-functions which are based upon a number of q-product identities and Jacobi’s celebrated triple-product identity. These theta-function identities depict the inter-relationships that exist among theta-function identities and combinatorial partition-theoretic identities. Here, in this paper, we consider and relate the multivariable R-functions to several interesting q-identities such as (for example) a number of q-product identities and Jacobi’s celebrated triple-product identity. Various recent developments on the subject-matter of this article as well as some of its potential application areas are also briefly indicated. Finally, we choose to further emphasize upon some close connections with combinatorial partition-theoretic identities and present a presumably open problem.
A wheel chair is a mechanically operated device that allows the user to move about independently. This minimizes the user's personal effort and force required to move the wheelchair wheels. Furthermore, it allows visually or physically handicapped people to go from one location to another. Voice commands and button controls can be used to operate wheelchairs. In recent years, there has been a lot of interest in smart wheelchairs. These gadgets are very handy while traveling from one location to another. The devices can also be utilized in nursing homes where the elderly have difficulties moving about. For individuals who have lost their mobility, the gadgets are a godsend. Different types of smart wheelchairs have been created in the past, but new generations of wheelchairs are being developed and utilized that incorporate the use of artificial intelligence and therefore leave the user with a little to tamper with. The project also intends to develop a comparable wheel chair that has some intelligence and so assists the user in his or her mobility.
