The purpose of the present paper is to know the effectiveness of life-skills counseling intervention in enhancing self-sufficiency of high school students. Life-skills counseling is an educational approach, which is used to inculcate the essential life-skills in an individual to meet the challenges of everyday life. It is also known to be very effective and appropriate for present day scenario. It is easily adaptable for larger groups. High School students are in the stage of adolescence. High school students face a wide variety of problems out of which the major ones are lack of self-sufficiency, inability to manage emotions, decision-making skills etc. The present study involves 300 high school students (150 Boys and 150 Girls) who are selected from various schools in Mysore city corporation limit. High School Personality Questionnaire (HSPQ) was administered to find out the personality problems of high school students. Experimental design has been applied and Life-skills counseling intervention has been given for the experimental group. Life-skills counseling was found to be very effective in enhancing the self-sufficiency of high school students.
This study explores the performance on different components of the phonological awareness (i.e., rhyme generation (RG), phoneme deletion (PD), phoneme reversal (PR), syllable deletion (SD), syllable reversal (SR) and spoonerism (Spo) among 4th, 5th and 6th grade children. A total of 110 children (31-4th, 41-5th and 38-6th graders) spoke only one language, and Kannada was their mother tongue. The results indicate that there is a slight increase in performance on all components of phonological awareness. However, there are no significant differences in performance on component skills of phonological awareness across the grades observed except from syllable reversal. The results also reveal that a better performance, from all the groups, on syllable and rime tasks when compared to phoneme level tasks.
Vipassana Meditation is measured to be the embodiment of the tradition from 2500 years back. It is non-scientific technique of self-observation which leads to progressive improved insight and positive life satisfaction attributes, as also, inculcations of family, friends, school, living environment and self life-satisfaction. The goal of this research was to study the effectiveness of Vipassana meditation on life satisfaction. In this study 120 student participants (experimental and control) were selected. The experimental group was given Ten Days (ten hours per day and total hours taken was three hundred hours) Vipassana meditation course. After meditation course the Satisfaction with life scale was administered to experimental and control group immediately. The effect of intervention on experimental group was studied by comparing with control group in pre-post test phases. For analysis of data the GLM- Repeated measures of ANOVA was used. Findings indicate that Vipassana meditation had positive effect on the level of life satisfaction.
