The extensive changes in the course content of General Chemistry since 1950 have often been discussed in this Journal. Several authors have studied these changes through questionnaire surveys at various times since 1950.1-4 The present study shows changes which are evident from a systematic content analysis of 24 major texts used since 1950, and 11 ACS General Chemistry Examinations published between PROFILE OF GENERAL CHEMISTRY TEXTS: 1950TEXTS: -1975 to Struc Thermo Equi-Descr Organic States Stoichr Acids Electro-Nuclear and and librium Inorg and of ometry and chem Chem Bonding Kinetics Biochem Matter Bases 1950 and 1975.
