The above list of introductions would indicate that the efforts of the Department of Agriculture were not confined to obtaining seed from a particular locality or region. Nevertheless, since the project was inaugurated mainly to aid in the solution of the hardy and drought-resistant alfalfa problems, special attention was focused on parts of Eussia and Siberia having climatic conditions comparable with the colder and drier portions of the Xorth and Xorthwest.
