This article presents the experiences and results of the application of Reliability-centered Maintenance to the automotive field. The application was carried out in the decentralized autonomous government of Santiago de Píllaro. First, an inventory, codification, and grouping in families of the fleet vehicles were elaborated; at the same time, a technical evaluation of the workshop and automotive maintenance personnel was carried out through interviews and surveys. Next, technical visits were made to determine the mechanical condition of the vehicle fleet. The information obtained made it possible to perform a critical analysis to identify the vehicles and automotive systems that represent a high potential risk of failure. Based on the results and using the RCM decision scheme, a maintenance plan proposal was designed with 26 maintenance tasks aimed at improving the reliability of the vehicle fleet. Keywords: RCM, vehicle fleet, criticality, maintenance plan.
