Thispaper,focuses on the development and implementation of an intellisnt Decision Support System (DSS) to enhance and further a resource-saving and recycling conscious mangfacturingactivities associated with minimizingenvironmental impacts and resource and/or energy consumption through the whole product life-cycle. The intelligent DSS, which aims to more cost-qffective and environmentally-friendlier product design and manufacturing, is mainly concerned with efficient integration of three functions: (I) knowledge-based support system for selectingenvironmentally sound materials and manufacturingprocess through weighted normalizing procedure, (2) constraint sutisfaction and backtrack-j?ee search technique assisting aflexible und efficient database quer? to guarantee environmental1.v preferable material continuously, and (3) simulation optimization techniques for qynchronizing recycling activities and production management decision.
