Two case studies were utilized to teach math skills while embedding the constant time delay teaching strategy. The study targeted children who were at risk for having mathematic difficulty in school due to disabilities, socioeconomic status, and living in a rural area. Four 3- to 5-year-old children with disabilities who attended rural inclusive preschool programs participated. Results indicated that early math skills were acquired with high levels of accuracy when compared with baseline data. Due to the end of the school year, one of the four children did not participate in maintenance or generalization data sessions. However, of the three children who participated, skills were maintained and/or generalized with 100% accuracy.
it is her first experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As she enters the NICU, she is excited to learn more about the new child on her caseload. Mary Anne observes the NICU nurse, Consuela, coaching the baby's mom, Shayla, in ways to comfort her infant. Consuela is showing Shayla how to swaddle and encourage sucking from her newborn, Jax. Jax was born fullterm and is experiencing neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), as diagnosed by the NICU team. Shayla practices the techniques that Consuela shows her, and Jax begins to settle. Mary Anne has not worked with an infant with NAS and is unfamiliar with these calming techniques. Interest in documenting the history and evolution of the American Council for Rural Special Education (ACRES), from the perspective of its original members, resulted in distribution of a survey and interviews. The data collected recount the original mission of ACRES and describe the organization’s impact over the past 37 years. Overarching themes that emerged from the data include the unique needs of rural special education, ACRES’s voice for rural environments, people with a passion for rural special education, and friendliness of the organization. The results identified future directions of the organization.
