Epilepsy is a common disease with serious health consequences. Knowledge regarding the clinical pattern of epilepsy is important for its management and prevention. The study aims to investigate the epidemiology of epilepsy among the children following King Salman Armed Forced Hospital in Tabuk city and to determine the frequency of epilepsy according to age, gender, consanguinity, and comorbidities. This is a retrospective observational study conducted among children, in King Salman Armed Forces Hospital in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Data from the patient's medical record was collected following its policy on data confidentiality, security, and safety. The study included 200 participants, 53.5% of them were males and 46.5% were females. 31% reported consanguinity between parents. The age of the first epileptic seizure was less than 1 year in 40.5% of patients, 2 years in 16.5%, 5 years old in 7% of patients, and 7 years old in 6.5% of patients. Our objective is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents of children with sickle cell disease (SCD) towards vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC).Cross-sectional study, administered to patients following up in King Salman Armed Forces Hospital (KSAFH), Saudi Arabia. The study included 134 participants. Data analysis performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Regarding assessment of the participant's knowledge only 0.9% had a low knowledge level, 54.3% had a moderate level and 44.7% had a high level. Evaluation of the participants' practices, 7% had a low level and 77.2% had a high-level practice. Participant's attitudes level toward the VOC was good in 97.4% of participants, while 2.6% had a poor attitude. There was a good level of general knowledge among parents of SCD patients. However, their knowledge about the role of vaccines and hospital admission was inadequate. The adequate knowledge of the parents was transformed into good practices, where the highest percentage of the participants had high practices and attitude scores. We recommend establishing more education meetings with parents as this is the preferred source of information by the parents.
Background: Interventional radiology (IR) is a comprehensive specialty that covers a wide variety of image guided minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Although IR is constantly growing, many people are misinformed regarding the responsibilities of IRs in clinical settings. This study aimed to see the awareness and knowledge among clinical year's medical students at Tabuk University regarding interventional radiology. Methodology: A cross sectional, self-administered questionnaire study. Our target population was the clinical year's medical students at Tabuk university Ethical approval was obtained from the ethical committees of the University of Tabuk. Results: More than half of the participants said that they have an adequate and good knowledge about IR. And (53%) did not think that interventional radiologists have outpatient clinics or even do ward rounds in the hospital (51%). Also, 70% did not believe that they treat patients at all. And 55% believed that interventional radiologists must finish training in Surgery and Radiology, while 30% only correctly identified radiology as a method of training. Regarding the procedures done by interventional radiologists they were familiar to the majority of the participants. Conclusion:The results of this study suggest that the awareness of IR among senior medical students in Tabuk and Saudi Arabia are higher than other countries. However, there are still low career considerations for IR due to lack of interest. This can be addressed by increasing the IR exposure in medical school through improving the curriculum related to IR increasing IR trainings.
