The reinforcement of beam-to-column connection with the knee brace members have been used as an efficient seismic retrofitting measure for existing steel buildings. In order to make the knee brace member absorb more seismic energy in the overall frame, authors have proposed a ductile knee brace member with a built-in-comb-shaped damper. The object of this study is to estimate hysteresis characteristics of the reinforced subassemblage frame with the ductile knee brace. For the analytical model of the reinforced subassemblage specimen, an elasto-plastic analysis was conducted by using the force method, so that the experimental hysteretic curve was simulated well by the elasto-plastic analysis. In addition, an ideal type of ductile knee brace was added in the analysis. the hysteressis characteristics of it was estimated by the same method, and a influence on the ideal type of knee brace was considered.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
