Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LG) is an infrequent extranodal Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by angiocentric and angiodestructive polymorphic lymphoid infiltration. CNS is involved in one of every 4 patients, but isolated CNS involvement at presentation is rare. A 67-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of visual impairment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a suprasellar mass lesion isointense to gray matter on T1 and T2-weighted images. The hypotalamic/chiazmatic mass was resected through a transsphenoidal approach. Pathological examination of the biopsy specimen revealed large atypical, CD20-positive B-lymphocytes within a background containing numerous CD3-positive small T-lymphocytes and scattered admixed plasma cells and histiocytes. Necrotic areas and vascular infiltration by a mixed mononuclear cell infiltrate with scattered large atypical lymphoid cells was present. In situ hybridization for EBV showed few large cells both around blood vessels and adjacent to the necrotic zone. This morphologic and immunophenotypic features was diagnostic for lymphomatoid granulomatosis. The patient was successfully treated with steroids, high-dose methotrexate and radiotherapy.
Summary Objective: Description of clinical, biochemical and haematological changes in Saanen goat kids post-exposure to a naturally occurring heat stroke. Material and methods: The experimental group consisted of goats of different age (1–4 months) and sex (8 males, 12 females) with an average weight of 7.2 ± 3.1 kg. Twenty clinically healthy, three to four months old, Saanen goat kids (sex-ratio 1:1) were used as a control. The average body weight in this group was 9.4 ± 2.6 kg. Case history, clinical signs, and results of haematology and blood biochemistry were documented in all goat kids. Results: Most common findings were hyperthermia, ataxia, muscle tremor and depression. Increased serum urea, creatinine, potassium and plasma lactate concentrations as well as an increase in aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase activity were observed in goats post-exposure to heat stroke when compared to the control group. Two goat kids died despite supportive treatment. Physical and biochemical blood parameters improved following treatment. Conclusion: This is the first study on heat stroke in Saanen goat kids. Heatstroke may be fatal in Saanen goat kids, despite appropriate treatment, and may lead to secondary complications. Plasma lactate concentration seems to be a reliable indicator for the prognosis of heat stroke in goat kids.
Ultrasonography (USG) is an important diagnostic method in the practice of gynaecology. The evaluation of endometrial morphology with Doppler sonography in addition to the two-dimensional USG is important for the diagnosis of endometrial lesions. 1 While the conventional colour Doppler is insufficient to identify vessels smaller than 1 mm and flows lower than 3-5 cm/sec, power Doppler is useful in low flow imaging. 2 Superb Micro Vascular Imaging (SMI) is a new Doppler technique. It displays low blood flow in vessels with small diameters by eliminating the tissue movement-related artefact compared to the conventional colour and power Doppler. The wall filter existing in conventional Doppler eliminates the interference and tissue motion artefact, however reduces the capture of low velocity flows. 3 Transvaginal USG (TVUSG) is typically used in the evaluation of the endometrial cavity. However, analysis with transabdominal USG (TAUSG) may be required in cases of large fibroids, pathologies in which the uterus has a large size, virgo, vaginismus, vaginal stenosis, etc. 4 Post-menopausal endometrium is seen as an atrophic, thin echogenic line in two-dimensional USG. 5 Endometrial polyp (EP) and submucosal
