This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of smartphone usage and posture of users during using smartphone. A survey was conducted for 983 smartphone users to understand the association between smartphone usage and including subjective symptoms associated with musculoskeletal disorders.Main results from the survey were as follows; 1) 18.8% of the subjects experienced musculoskeletal symptoms at least at one of body parts. Specifically, 8.1%, 5.6%, 4.1%, and 11.3% of the subjects experienced musculoskeletal symptoms at neck, shoulder, elbow, and hand respectively, 2) The symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders were also associated with amount of text message and time for daily usage of smartphone. Specifically, relative risks of musculoskeletal disorders at hand/wrist/fingers in terms of "amount of text message" and "time for daily usage" for experienced user were 1.425 and 1.368 respectively to inexperienced user.This study identified 'amount of text message' and 'time for daily usage' as the major risk factors of smartphone usage in terms of musculoskeletal symptoms. The results of the study provided a good basis in order to remove or reduce the risks associated with musculoskeletal symptoms due to smartphone usage.
The study conducted statistical analysis of survey on the 239 workers participating in national Tower Crane installation/dismantlement in order to identify work environment and health hazard exposure of Tower Crane workers. Consequently for work related safety status of Tower Crane workers, the number of installation/dismantlement work was the highest at 15-20 times per month, and safety equipments were not arranged at work and they felt highly anxious when boarding on the Tower Crane. Furthermore, it is found that they feel anxious working in the influence of the weather, noise, vibration, wind, the sun ray, and structure characteristic. They have very low satisfaction in the insecureness of workplace and the work environment, and recognizes that their work affect highly on the health. 81.6% of workers have experienced accident at work, the cause of accidents were mainly due to poor work environment, and the health abnormality they have experienced were mostly fatigue and concentration reduction. For job stress, job demand and conflict in relationship were the highest sections. Total 66.5% of workers complained of musculoskeletal disorder related subjective symptom, and back pain patients were the highest of all groups.
The purpose of this study was to verify the change in temperature•humidity•perspiration of fire suit when applying phased intensive exercises to fire fighter wearing fire suit. For this study, three male fire fighters took basic physical test and performed 10 minute phased intensive exercises-exercise intensity I (30%VO2max), exercise intensity II (45%VO2max), exercise intensity III (60%VO2max) based on maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max)-wearing fire suit (helmet, boots, air respirator) in treadmill and took a rest. The result of study shows that the temperature in the suit elevated during stabilization period after each exercise intensity, humidity elevated as exercise intensity increased, perspiration elevated as exercise intensity increased. This study indirectly ascertained the fire suit's physiological change in fire fighters during field activities.
Modern fire fighting jobs have been expanded to include areas of rescue, emergency medical service as well as conventional fire suppression, so that load for fire fighting jobs has been increased. Specifically, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as low back injury have been considered as one of major industrial hazards in heavy manual material handling during fire fighting jobs. This study tried to evaluate risk levels and to prepare background for reducing risk levels associated with heavy manual material handling during fire fighting jobs. This study applied two major tools in evaluating heavy manual material handling jobs which were NLE (NIOSH Lifting Equation) and 3DSSPP (3D Static Strength Prediction Program). A risk index in terms of heavy manual material handling during fire fighting jobs was identified. This index consisted of seven risk levels ranged from nine points (the first level) to three points (the seventh level). There was no job associated with the first level (the highest risk level) of index. There was only one job (life saving job) belonging to the second level (the second highest risk level) of index. The third level had jobs such as usage of destruction equipment and lifting patient. A total of basic eighteen jobs was categorized into six different levels (2nd-7th levels) of index. The outcome of the study could provide a good basis for conducting job intervention, preparing good equipment and developing good education program in order to prevent and reduce MSDs including low back injury of fire fighting jobs.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity of safety awareness and education regarding the use of laboratories, and to foster safety awareness during intramural and extracurricular activities in high schools. The study conducted a questionnaire to 290 eleventh grade students of three high schools located in Seoul. The collected data were statistically analyzed. The result illustrates that 64.8% of students have experienced safety education during a regular class, 6.6% have experienced accidents, and 68.0% have experienced safety education during field activities. The result concludes that there is a lack of prior safety education as well as overall low awareness on the necessity of safety education. In particular, students who have experienced safety education recognizes the necessity of emergency education regarding laboratory accident more than those who did not receive such education. Thus, a systematic management of laboratory safety education and multilateral management measures for students' safety are required. There is a relatively high correlation between safety intention of R&D and Education factors and Community and Laboratory Safety Education. As much as there is a high safety demand regarding the laboratory instruments and experiment, it shows high intention of safety lab operation as well as count measurement of lab accident . This study recommends developing a laboratory safety education program and management methods appropriate for high school students.
