We construct, to leading orders in the momentum expansion, an effective
theory of a chiral $p_x + ip_y$ two-dimensional fermionic superfluid at zero
temperature that is consistent with nonrelativistic general coordinate
invariance. This theory naturally incorporates the parity and time reversal
violating effects such as the Hall viscosity and the edge current. The particle
number current and stress tensor are computed and their linear response to
electromagnetic and gravitational sources is calculated. We also consider an
isolated vortex in a chiral superfluid and identify the leading chirality
effect in the density depletion profile.Comment: 10 pages; published versio
We study a system of spinless fermions in two dimensions with a short-range interaction fine-tuned to a p-wave resonance. We show that three such fermions form an infinite tower of bound states of orbital angular momentum ℓ=±1 and their binding energies obey a universal doubly exponential scaling E(3)((n))∝exp(-2e(3πn/4+θ)) at large n. This "super Efimov effect" is found by a renormalization group analysis and confirmed by solving the bound state problem. We also provide an indication that there are ℓ=±2 four-body resonances associated with every three-body bound state at E(4)((n))∝exp(-2e(3πn/4+θ-0.188)). These universal few-body states may be observed in ultracold atom experiments and should be taken into account in future many-body studies of the system.
We investigate a quantum many-body lattice system of one-dimensional spinless fermions interacting with a dynamical Z2 gauge field. The gauge field mediates long-range attraction between fermions resulting in their confinement into bosonic dimers. At strong coupling we develop an exactly solvable effective theory of such dimers with emergent constraints. Even at generic coupling and fermion density, the model can be rewritten as a local spin chain. Using the Density Matrix Renormalization Group the system is shown to form a Luttinger liquid, indicating the emergence of fractionalized excitations despite the confinement of lattice fermions. In a finite chain we observe the doubling of the period of Friedel oscillations which paves the way towards experimental detection of confinement in this system. We discuss the possibility of a Mott phase at the commensurate filling 2/3.
We apply a field-theoretic functional renormalization group technique to the
few-body (vacuum) physics of non-relativistic atoms near a Feshbach resonance.
Three systems are considered: one-component bosons with U(1) symmetry,
two-component fermions with U(1)\times SU(2) symmetry and three-component
fermions with U(1) \times SU(3) symmetry. We focus on the scale invariant
unitarity limit for infinite scattering length. The exact solution for the
two-body sector is consistent with the unitary fixed point behavior for all
considered systems. Nevertheless, the numerical three-body solution in the
s-wave sector develops a limit cycle scaling in case of U(1) bosons and SU(3)
fermions. The Efimov parameter for the one-component bosons and the
three-component fermions is found to be approximately s=1.006, consistent with
the result of Efimov.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, minor changes, published versio
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
