Background and Design: Actinic (solar) keratosis (AK) is a precancerous, epidermal lesion, which develops in sensitive skin exposed to sun for a long period. AKs are divided into different histopathological subtypes. There is a link between the clinical progression of the histopathological subtypes, the degree of cellular atypia, and the precancerous nature of the lesion. Different series have reported that the rate of transformation of AK to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) ranges between 12% and 20%. Materials and Methods: In this study, we reevaluated patients who were diagnosed with AK in the Pathology Departments of the Medical Faculties of İnönü and Gaziantep Universities over an eight-year period, and divided the patients into different histopathological subtypes. In addition, we investigated the association between the lesions, and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), SCC and both carcinomas. Results: 29,6% of cases were proliferative AK, 27% of cases were hypertrophic AK.19% and 13% of all lesions was associated with BCC and SCC, respectively. Conclusion: In this study, we found that the most frequent subtype was proliferative AK and the most frequent nonmelanotic skin cancer was BCC associated with AK.
idradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin disease that occur in the areas of apocrine glands. The disease was first described by Velpeau in 1839. Its prevalence is estimated to vary between 0.03% and 4%. It is more common in women than men. Perianal HS incidence is higher in men. 1-3
Objective: Leishmaniasis is a group of diseases, in different clinical forms, caused by the intracellular protozoan parasites, Leishmania species. The disease is transmitted by a female sand fly infected with the parasite sucking blood from people. Leishmania species causes three main clinical forms: cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral disease. The clinical forms may vary by species and/or region of acquisition. Two forms are observed in Turkey; visceral leishmaniasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis. The aim of this study is to examine the status of Cutaneous Leismaniasis(CL) in the Kahramanmaras province and contribute to the prevention of the disease in this region. Methods: 20 CL cases were reported officially in 2009. CL was diagnosed by skin biopsy or smear. Intralesional meglumine antimoniate was applied for patients treatment. Results: Out of 20 cases, 12 and 8 were female and male. According to smear and biopsy, was found positive in 13 cases, and negative in 7 cases and the results of biyopsy was assessment as CL. Conclusion: By defining the status of CL in the region, the study can be considered to contribute to the planning of methods of intervention, public health education and personal preventative precautions.
