Background: Family caregivers play an important role in providing long-term care for people with diabetes mellitus because it is a chronic disease that requires critical attention. This increases the burden of family caregivers which affects the health status of people with this disease. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the correlation between the burden of family caregivers and the health status of people with diabetes mellitus. Design and methods: This is an analytic observational study which was carried out in the work area ofpublic health centers in Malang City using a cross-sectional design approach. The subjects used were 327 people with diabetes mellitus and their families were selected using the cluster sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using demographic data instruments, Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) questionnaire to measure the burden of family caregivers and the SF 12 questionnaire to measure the health status of people with diabetes mellitus.Results: The results of the Spermank-Rank statistical test showed that there was a negative relationship between the burden of family caregivers and the health status of people with diabetes mellitus (p-value 0.000 and coefficient value of -0.333).Conclusions: It was concluded that the lesser the burden on family caregivers, the better the health status of people with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, interventions are needed to reduce the burden of family caregiver and improve the health status of patients with diabetes mellitus.
AbstrakPasien stroke tidak dapat sepenuhnya mandiri disebabkan adanya gejala sisa yang menyertai setelah perawatan akut. Keluarga sangat berperan dalam fase pemulihan, sehingga sejak awal perawatan keluarga diharapkan terlibat dalam penanganan penderita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan dukungan keluarga dengan kemandirian pasien stroke di instalasi rawat jalan rehabilitasi medik Rumah Sakit Dr. Iskak Tulungagung. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pengambilan sample secara purposive sampling dengan jumlah sample 57 pasien. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner Barthel index dan kuesioner dukungan keluarga. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data didapatkan dukungan keluarga skor rata-rata adalah 87,84 termasuk kategori baik. Sementara skor rata-rata kemandirian pasien stroke adalah 81,75 termasuk kategori sesang. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan nilai signifikasi p = 0,00 (α = 0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan antara dukungan keluarga dengan kemandirian. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini disarankan petugas kesehatan dapat melibatkan peran keluarga dalam proses pemulihan pada pasien pasca stroke yang menjalani perawatan di rumah.Kata kunci: dukungan keluarga, kemandirian, stroke THE CORRELATION OF FAMILY SUPPORT WITH STROKE PATIENTS' INDEPENDENCE AT MEDICAL REHABILITATION CENTER OF DR. ISKAK HOSPITAL TULUNGAGUNG AbstractStroke patients cannot fully support themselves after acute care. During the recovery phase, family plays an important role, they served as a source of support even during the healing and rehabilitation phase. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation of family support with stroke patients' independence in the medical rehabilitation center of Dr. Iskak hospital Tulungagung. It is a descriptive research that use purposive sampling method. The research data were collected by using Barthel Index's Instrument and family support instrument. Based on the results of the study, out of 57 respondents, the average score for family support was 87,84 while the stroke patients' independence receives an average score of 81,75. Statistical analysis showed significant value p = 0.00 (α = 0.05) In conclusion, by giving a better family support the stroke patients can gradually become more independent. It is advised that the paramedics should improve their role in providing education about the importance of family support towards stroke patients' family during the recovery process at home.
Introduction Knowledge management-based nursing care has a positive effect in preventing healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Therefore, nursing professionals can utilize key strategies of knowledge management to support clinical decision making, reorganize nursing actions, and maximize patient outcomes. Objectives The aim of this study was to determine the effect of knowledge management-based nursing care educational training on HAI prevention behavior at the High Care Unit (HCU) of Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. Methods A quasiexperimental design with a pretest, educational training intervention, and posttest were conducted on 15 nurses in the HCU of Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang, which lasted for 16 days. Furthermore, observation of nursing care documentation, nurses’ handwashing compliance, and presence of infection-causing bacteria in the HCU staff and environment (hands rub handle, medical record, and patient's bed) was carried out pre (day 1–7) and post training (day 10–16). Subsequently, educational training related to knowledge management-based nursing care was conducted for 2 days (day 8–9) by the Doktor Mengabdi Team of Universitas Brawijaya. Results The knowledge level and completeness of the nursing care documentation in the HCU room significantly increased after the training ( p < .05). Also, compliance to the six steps five moments of nurses’ handwashing increased after the training ( p > .05). Infection-causing bacteria were found in the HCU environment and staff before and after the training involving Pseudomonas stutzeri, Sphingomonas paucimobilis, Enterobacter cloacae, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pasteurella pneumotropica, and Acinetobacter lwoffii. Therefore, increased knowledge of HCU nurses and complete documentation ( r = .890; p = .054), increased knowledge of HCU nurses and handwashing compliance ( r = .770; p = .086), and handwashing compliance and bacterial presence ( r = .816; p = .084) all had a positive correlation. Conclusion Knowledge management-based nursing care educational training increased infection prevention behavior in the HCU of Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang.
Caring is an important part of nursing process that difficult to be apart. Emergency nursing is a profession that required health care providers with fast performance, accurate, and quality of complicated and holistic problems. A lot of patients with critical condition at emergency department, they ask a quality of nursing services and it is affected by the quality of a nurse caring. Without caring passion, a nurse vulnerable to act that violate ethical of nursing, no exception nursing profession at emergency installations of RSSA Malang. The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of nurse caring for clients with critical condition at emergency installations of RSSA Malang. This study used a qualitative approach, with interpretive phenomenological method. Purposive sampling is a method used in this study, the criteria of experience as nurse in the emergency installations of RSSA Malang at least 5 years, still working in the emergency installations of RSSA Malang, and willing as participant. Using semi-structure interviews technique, and analyzed by Miles and Huberman model approach. The results led to three themes, namely: the resque of critically ill patients, improve patient and family confidence, desire to do the best for crical patients. Based on the results of the study are expected to follow up with the theme of the next study of emergency nurses caring of the perpective of patient and families, and needs to be improved further for the training of emergency skill of nurses in the emergency department, so thet skills and knowledge of nurses in handling critical patients better.; Key words: caring, nursing experience, critical patient.
ABSTRAKMenurunkan kadar LDL merupakan salah satu fokus utama dalam terapi Diabetes Melitus untuk menurunkan risiko kematian. Brokoli (Brassica oleracea Var. Italica) kaya akan vitamin dan mineral telah digunakan sebagai terapi diet bagi penderita Diabetes Melitus, terutama untuk menurunkan kadar LDL. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh jus brokoli terhadap penurunan kadar LDL pada tikus putih model Diabetes Melitus (DM) dengan induksi STZ. Metode yang digunakan adalah experiment laboratory dengan rancangan post test only. Sampel dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok dengan 4 ekor tiap kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif, kelompok kontrol positif (diinduksi STZ dan tanpa jus brokoli), kelompok perlakuan 1 (diinduksi STZ dan jus brokoli 2,52 g/Kg BB), kelompok perlakuan 2 (diinduksi STZ dan jus brokoli 5,04 g/Kg BB), dan kelompok perlakuan 3 (diinduksi STZ dan jus brokoli 7,56 g/Kg BB) dengan perlakuan 14 hari. Uji one way ANOVA yang dilanjutkan uji Tuckey menunjukkan terjadi penurunan yang signifikan (p=0,000) kadar LDL pada tikus model DM, pada ketiga dosis dengan kadar LDL terendah pada dosis 7,56g/kgBB. Dapat disimpulkan pemberian jus brokoli menurunkan LDL darah pada tikus model DM.
