-Anthropogenic land use within watersheds has substantial effects on aquatic habitats and biological communities. From September 2006 to December 2008, we investigated the effects of land use on benthic macroinvertebrate communities by comparing Song Stream and Odae Stream, two adjacent mountain streams in Korea whose watersheds have different land use patterns. Song Stream is significantly disturbed by agricultural activities in the watershed, whereas Odae Stream is relatively undisturbed and is surrounded by a well-conserved forest area. Song Stream had significantly higher levels of all nutrients and sedimentrelated factors due to the adjacent agricultural area. As a result, Song Stream had markedly lower species community indices, such as taxa richness and abundance. In Song Stream, macroinvertebrate scrapers and predators were most adversely affected, whereas collector-gatherers became a dominant group. Based on correlation and multivariate analyses, total dissolved solids had the strongest negative relationship with macroinvertebrate assemblages, followed by electrical conductivity, total nitrogen, and pH. The proportion of cobble in stream substrate was positively related to the richness and abundance of macroinvertebrates. Our results indicate that disturbances caused by agricultural land use, particularly sand deposition, had significant adverse effects on macroinvertebrate habitats and on the biotic integrity of benthic macroinvertebrate communities.
Robots are utilized to automate works on a vertical plane of a large structure such as a ship and permanent magnet wheels have been utilized to make possible the robots to be attached to vertical plane and be in motion. In this paper, we propose a new design of the permanent magnet wheel for mobile robots to improve the adhesive force and facilitate the detachment of the wheel. In newly suggested design, the magnetic flux enhances the adhesive force during the attachment while induction pins redirect magnetic flux in order to achieve an easier detachment. To characterize the performance, finite element analysis is executed and experiment apparatus is constructed. The results show that the adhesive force is reduced effectively by using induction pins.
In order to build a ship, painting on ship cargo tank is one of the most dangerous parts as it involves working in high altitudes and a closed ship cargo tank. Therefore, researchers have been developing devices that will enable mobile robots to operate on vertical walls. The wall-climbing robots have been widely used to attach on the wall such as suction types. These types can be utilized regardless of the wall material. However, it is required to adhere and control the suction cups. To moderate this drawbacks, this paper proposes an automatic painting robot that uses a permanent magnet mobile robot. Using the magnetic characteristics, this robot can move on the boat vertically and horizontally even while hanging on the ceiling of the ship cargo tank. Also, we made a prototype to test adhesive force of the permanent magnet wheel and mobile robot as well as the towing capacity and auto-piloting ability.
Recently, component materials for display are being developed into higher value-added industries which can strengthen national industrial competitiveness. However, a system for production of component materials for display is nearly depending on import, and its development level is inadequate. For this reason, localization of the embossing treatment system for production of the spacer tape and system improvement for increasing of productivity are needed. Therefore, in this paper, we propose rotary type embossing process system for spacer tape production for localization of system and increasing productivity. The system consists of unwinding, forming, cleaning, winding and testing parts. The mold of forming part is designed to rotary type. And we designed each part and made a prototype to test its performance. We measured embossing shapes, diameter and distance between each embossing and opposite embossing using three coordinate measuring machine. Also, we measured impurity level and the number of impurity particles of sample through the testing and cleaning part. Additionally, the productivity of spacer tape produced by the prototype is measured.
