This paper aimed at investigating the relationship of cognitive styles withstudents’ academic achievement in the subject of science at elementary level. Asample of 511 students, studying in 8th class, was taken from five Pakistani publicsector secondary schools. The data collected through the study instruments wereanalyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation, partial correlation and ttest. Results indicate that male students tended to be more field dependent, whilefemale students were more inclined towards field independence and the lowachievers were found to be field dependent while high achievers tended to be fieldindependent. Results have many implications for teachers, e.g. teachers may helpfield dependent children act more field independently to achieve well in thosesubject areas where field independence is required.
This study was conducted to isolate and identify bacteria from human finger nails. A total of three nail samples were collected. The samples were collected from random people in which two of them were from females and one was from male. The isolated pathogens from finger nails include Bacillus species (2 isolates), coccus species (one isolate). Highest contamination of Bacillus species was isolated. After the colonies were being isolated, they were further characterized on the basis of biochemical characteristics including Indole test, Citrate test, Nitrate reduction test and Urease test. After that Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed to identify the resistance of a particular bacteria towards a given antibiotic i.e. Ampicillin, Chloromphenicol, Norfloxacin, Co-Trimoxazol and Ciprofloxacin. However the results obtained showed the resistance of isolates towards Ampicillin indicating the prevalance of potentially disease causing microbes under fingernails. This study showed the importance of nail hygiene.
Non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver problems across the world accounting 25% of the global population. The major groups that are mostly affected are young children and obese population. It is identified to be corelated with metabolic syndrome such as mellitus diabetes, hypertension, insulin resistance. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the robust form of NAFLD which has led to necro-inflammation and liver fibrosis. The standard and well-known diagnostic method till now is ‘liver biopsy’ but it impedes the examining of the tissue because of its invasive nature. Other diagnostic study usually involved imaging tools MRI or ultrasonography for discriminating simple steatosis with prognostic NASH also have certain limitations. Due to the ever-rising rate of NAFLD, there is an imperative need of developing non-invasive biomarkers for better monitoring and prophecy of the disease. There is also a need for the better treatment for curing NAFLD. In the knowledge of people, it has been observed that medicinal plants have known to possess professional therapeutic properties Swertia chiraiyta, a customary indigenous folk plant primordial to the upper regions of temperate Himalayas, Nepal and Bhutan is used in various ailments of liver disorders, ulcers, fever, diabetes, skin, and various other diseases. The current review focuses on epidemiologic, pathogenetic aspects and both the current and prospective biomarkers involved in NAFLD assessment that has the potential to leverage better understanding of solving the problem. Moreover, it characterizes the current treatment of NAFLD while discussing the other newer dimension of formulation for future prospects.
The study was a survey type with a quantitative method in which usage of ICT by research students and its impact on their performance was investigated. The population of the study was students of public sector universities. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample of the study. The sample of the study was 600 research students of postgraduate who were almost near to complete their research. Data was assembled from the students with the help of a questionnaire. From the findings of the study, it was concluded that usage of ICT has a significant impact on the performance of research students. Based on findings it was recommended that research students should be trained to best utilized the ICT for academic purposes so they can enhance their performance at high to a very high level.
The policy “MAAR NAHI PIYAR” (Not to beat but Love) is the initiative taken by the government of Punjab education department, which intends to enhance children's academic performance and improve their behavior. This study aimed at exploring the effects of the policy “MAARNAHI PIYAR” on students’ behavior and their academic performance in public schools of Pakistan through the lens of teachers and students. The study sample consisted of two groups of respondents i.e. teachers and students. The study surveyed opinions of a randomly sampled 100 teachers, 100 students, and ten public schools in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The quantitative method approach was adopted. Data were collected through self-developed questionnaires. Five Point Likert scale was used.Findings illustrated a need for continued research of the policy “MAAR NAHI PIYAR” and its impact to a district-by-district and a school-by-school basis. The findings of the study have indicated that the behavior of a teacher profoundly influences students’ behavior and their academic performance.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
