The waterproof and oil-repellent finishing of the dyed single-sided plain cotton fabric was carried out by two-dip and two-pad process. The influences of baking temperature (˚C), baking time (min), concentration of finishing solution (g/L) and percentage of liquid on waterproof effect of fabric were analyzed; the influences of the contact angle and the baking temperature (˚C), the baking time (min) and the concentration of the finishing agent (g/L) on the oil repellency of the fabric were investigated. The results showed that the best water-repellent finishing technology for cotton fabric was the concentration of finishing agent 30 g/L, the baking temperature 110˚C, the baking time 1.5 min and the liquid-uptake 70%. The best oil-repellent finishing process for cotton fabric is 35 g/L for finishing agent, 150˚C for baking temperature, and 1.5 min for baking time and pick up rate of 80%. After cotton fabric is treated with water-repellent and oil-repellent agent, the water-repellent contact angle of the fabric can reach 128˚ and the oil-repellent grade 6. The best finishing effect is obtained at this time. After the finishing agent acts on the surface of the fibre, the surface properties of the fibre can be changed, and the surface of the fibre can be changed from hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity. The finishing agent has good film-forming property, which makes the surface of cotton fibre smooth and has good waterproof and oil-repellent performance.
The process of giving denim special washed or vintage looks and color effects after stitching it into jeans or other garments. Different denim washing methods have been developed and used on various fabrics to produce a wide number of designs for fashionable denim garments and jeans over the last few decades. This study focused on the washing of denim fabrics with bleach and its effects on the denim fabrics. There were a total of three samples of three different structures of denim and bleached each sample in three different shades; light, medium, and dark. Among these samples, two samples were an indigo blue color, the composition of 98% cotton, 2% spandex, GSM–350 and 99% cotton, 1% spandex, GSM–330 respectively. KCI bleach for these two samples has found a good result. Another sample was black, 100% cotton, GSM–290. KCI bleach also applied on it but the result was not desired, bleaching results in a reddish effect over the fabrics, washed the remaining portion of the fabrics in caustic soda and got the desired result.
A novel flame retardant especially Pekoflam HFC was synthesized to improve the flame retardancy of fabric. Pekoflam HFC is especially suitable for flame retardant back coatings of synthetic fibre based home textiles and high-performance technical textiles. The flame retardancy of the samples was characterized by the spray method and the vertical burning test. The results indicated that the flame retardant had excellent flame retardancy and durability for cellulosic fabrics. The cotton knit fabric treated with Pekoflam HFC obtained the optimum flame retardancy with the decreased char length. Combustion behaviors of treated cotton fabric were tested by manual observation. After treatment, it found that the ignition time increased, and the values of total heat release, heat release rate and mass loss decreased. The strength and durability of treated fabric were studied by tear force test and washing durability test, respectively.
The goal of this project is to assess the effect of natural dye absorption from turmeric powder on cotton fabrics. At the commencement, the cotton fabrics are mordanted with two different processes, one is synthetic mordanting, and another one is bio mordanting. Both mordanting processes are done at 100°C temperature for 60 minutes and then dyed the fabrics with turmeric powder at 80°C for 60 minutes. The Application was made at different mordants. After completing the dyeing process, color fastness to wash and water, and dry and wet rubbing tests were evaluated. The results show that the samples dyed with cuso4 mordanting have not so good rubbing fastness properties. But, in the case of mordanting with aloe vera, the rubbing fastness properties are relatively better. The results show that the samples mordanting with CuSO4 have not so good color fastness to washing. But, in the case of mordanting with aloe vera sample has relatively better color fastness to wash. But, in the case of color fastness to water, both CuSO4 and aloe vera mordanted fabrics have good color fastness to water. The tests conducted for this project maintained the ISO standard.
