The fierce competitive status of the business world has urged innovation activities to transform from mechanistic to ecological and organic. An innovation ecosystem consists of multilateral organizations and emerges as a favorable mechanism for value co-creation and sustainable growth. Yet the theorizing of an innovation ecosystem is still at an early stage and in-depth studies from emerging economy leaders are insufficient. This study aims to investigate how an innovation ecosystem is constructed and coordinated from a core-firm based view. An exploratory single case study on the Haier Group is adopted. Through analyzing the multi-bedded units (i.e., six innovation projects/technological breakthroughs), we extract and depict Haier’s innovation ecosystem and the ecological niches within it. We highlight an innovation ecosystem that promotes sustainable development and is based on complementarities in technologies and resources, while at the same time integrates non-technological issues such as strategy, culture, institution, and the market. Regarding ecosystem coordination, value appropriability should be ensured to sustain the innovation ecosystem. Moreover, we argue that the ultimate purpose of innovation ecosystem is not to facilitate the realization of one specific project, but rather to improve the overall success rate of innovations within it. This research complements and extends literature on enterprise innovation ecosystems, and provides implications as to the construction, coordination, and sustainability of innovation ecosystems for emerging economy firms.
The article compares three characteristic quality assurance models of USA, UK and Germany, analyzes their features and influences to the formation of innovative engineers under globalization. The paper then points out that the Engineer Registration Institution of UK is more flexible and more effective to encourage more innovative engineers compared with USA's, and easier to harmonize compared with the decentralization of USA's. Germany has no Engineer Registration Institution now; the new Engineer Registration system is on the process of construction. The paper finally proposes that China may found the top organization of engineering to harmonize the ongoing establishment of Engineer Registration Institution, and may ponder over and design carefully the systemic institution under globalization, which not only assures the quality of engineer formation but also cultivates more innovative engineers, and is flexible and effective to regulate the formation of engineers.
Abstract-the essence of technology innovation is the updating of knowledge and the technology source of enterprises innovation are multi-channeled. Different learning and innovation mode are needed to digest, assimilate and re-innovate the techniques which come from different sources. Based on the definitions about learning and innovation mode of Denmark scholars such as Jensen,Lorenz and Lundvall, the author concluded the techniques source channel and learning mode of technology-based SMEs (small and medium enterprises) when they implemented the technology innovation fund project and he believed that the enterprises will get higher innovation performances when they adopted and digested the technology by using the suitable learning mode adapted to the technology source.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
