Interactive network experiments are useful for finding solutions to network problems, for teaching and for training purposes. In this demonstration we shall present an interactive experiment framework that allows users to directly control the experiment scenario by using a touch panel interface. This framework uses the network emulation module named dynamiQ for the dynamic emulation of networks.The demonstration uses a scenario with up to 55 emulated nodes, out of which 30 nodes form an emulated vehicular network and 5 are static buildings. The other nodes represent wireless towers and unmanned aerial vehicles that can be freely placed in the virtual experiment area. Participants are tasked with creating a multi-hop mesh network for sending video tra c between two predefined remote locations. A similar demonstration has already been shown at Interop Tokyo 2014, where it received a special jury award.
Given the high importance of communication for disaster management and recovery operations, it is essential to develop solutions for restoring network connectivity after natural catastrophes. We have used a disaster emulation framework built on top of the large-scale network testbed StarBED in order to virtually recreate a series of disaster conditions. Thus we could evaluate the potential of using Delay / Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) protocols and inter-vehicle communication for post-disaster network recovery. The results of our network emulation experiments prove that DTN in itself is a feasible alternative for network recovery. The objective assessment done using our emulation testbed on how communication performance depends on the mobility pattern of the vehicles and on their density can be used to make various practical decisions, for instance on how to manage the mobility of some of the vehicles in order to optimize network performance.
River bed material is normally heterogeneous, and the grain size distribution shows some features of each rivers. The information of distribution is, therefore, important factor in river engineering, and several traditional methods is practically used. Image processing method with digital photograph is modern analysis by using computer and replaced traditional analog photograph method. In image processing, however, optical distortion brings measurement error. We present a calibration of the distortion with optical theorem. In laboratory experiment with balls supposed river bed gravel, the theoretical calibration is considered to be appropriate. In field experiment, actual coefficient to calibrate distortion is estimated. In consequence of the investigation, it makes image processing method more accurate.
